The Texans are on the Clock
They have maybe 2 more season before Indy catches up
    and Father Times Overtakes them
Are the Texans in WIN NOW Mode?

AJ/Arian/Schuab - This combo maybe have 3 yrs TOPS IMO
of playing near the level they are at this year

Their replacements do not seem to be on the TEAM at this moment.

I have far more faith in them filling holes in the defense
than I do with them filling holes in the offense
then again . . that depends on if Wade is around

If Indy's 2013 draft is as good as their 2012 draft. They will win the division next year.

Is it a rhetorical question? Just about every team that made it to the 2nd round is in "win now" mode.

And you can't expect to have every positions future starter to be on the team already.

Check below for a full listing of odds to win Super Bowl 48, courtesy of the LVH Superbook. I’ve bolded three of my favorite picks that may have some value.

    Patriots — 6-to-1

    49ers — 7-to-1

    Broncos — 8-to-1

    Packers — 10-to-1

    Texans — 10-to-1

    Colts — 40-to-1

They've only proven that they can draft well for offensive skill positions.

If you draft well and do things right (don't overpay in free agency, are not willing to overpay even your own players), you can stay competitive and always within striking distance. The Steelers are the most obvious example and I would throw the Eagles in there too prior to them spiraling out of control the last couple of years.

Obviously QB is the greatest x-factor, but even in their down years without a franchise QB the Steelers have always been in the 6-9 win range. You can't expect to always be a SB contender but if you can stay one or two players away you are doing well.

I like the way this team has been drafting for the most part, and if they continue to get better at it hopefully we can be one of those teams.

Kind of depressing that TY Hilton, their second 3rd round pick, had a better season than any Texan WR not named Andre Johnson has had since 2008. Also that LaVon Brazill, their 6th round WR, had more receiving yards than Posey and Martin combined.

And also Dwayne Allen will be the best TE in the division in a couple years.

It is win now time but the problem is you can't win it all with schaub as the starter. The Texans made a huge mistake when they extended schaub. The best move they can make is to sign Matt Moore or even a guy like Vince Young and have a qb competition. Matt Moore or young both might not be the answer but we already know that schaub is not the guy.

The Texans are their own worst enemy; their ultra conservativism from the top down will do them in. Their "window" will likely pass and what you see is what you are going to get. Keep filling those seats and Uncle Bob will give you your "battle fighting" money's worth. Remember when Uncle Les declared that the Rockets were going to continue building around Yao and TMac ( for the umpteenth time ) and they could barely walk? Yep, your getting the same deal. Enjoy.

The win-now mode last for exactly one year, this year, if you are talking about the potential to add difference makers. Duane Brown and Schaub both have cap friendly numbers for the upcoming season, but will get sizable raises next season. Hence, the ability to fit a FA or two under the cap is only available this year. And we don't have any high draft picks coming up.

And while the NFL salary cap will go up soon, keep in mind that JJ Watt will become a RFA in 2 years. While generally a franchise tag will keep almost all players from getting a huge offer from another team, Watt may be the one non-QB that a team will sacrifice 2 1st rounders along with a $100mil contact to sign him.

So yeah, if this team isn't good enough to win, then we better add a difference make this season, or this is the team that we'll be battlefighting for the entirety of AJ and Schaub's career.

To be fair, they had 0 running game and consistently played from behind.

The colts got lucky as hell last year. They way out played their point differential. Either that catches up with them or they will have gotten a lot better.

Ah, the cynic within me agrees with you but maybe, just maybe, THIS time a Houston team will do the right thing. I know: I said the same thing for so many years with the Oilers and Rockets and while McNair & Kubiak don't exactly fill me with confidence, I came away from this season with a different feeling about them actually getting a clue. And when I look at the train wreck that is the Dallas Cowboys, I realize that things can ALWAYS be much much worse.

Why, will JJ Watt and Cushing be ready to retire?

We certainly hope so. Good ownership like the Ravens and Patriots can retool on the fly and still be playoff contenders the following season.

Retooling on the fly, interesting concept, I like it: not a Houston tradition. Since Les bought a championship team and turned it into a perennial lotto lurker how many other teams retooled several times. It has been a very, very long time from the Dream to the Beard. Texans, same story. Uncle Bob is going to run Kubiak and Schaub into the ground.

Can't believe he's running Kubiak into the ground. That guy has enough wear and tear on his body.
