99% of Rox fans from 1999 to 2011 are REAL Rocket fans. 50% of 2012 posters are LOF and do not care about the Rockets, and when someone is better than Lin (Harden), they get irrationally angry and jealous.

Real Rocket fans like Lin, he is the teams starting point guard, but he is not the best player is not worthy of a 50 page dissertation every time he farts.

Those three other forums you speak of don't have as polarizing figure as Lin on the team or the loads of Chinese/Asian fans that have been following Yao since he came to Houston. Sure there are bad posters out there, but that's in every forum. This is the best basketball BBS hands down...man down!

 

That was a pretty meh blog post of the game. Not much insight and was a pretty bland AP-like report. Not sure where they showed respect. Basically said the Rockets made a lot of 3s and Warriors couldn't keep up. I haven't even watched the game video yet and I could've written that based on the box score and past experiences of Rockets games.

 

What about the SF3 only fans? I consider myself to be one of the original and still present SF3 only fans on these forums. SF3 will make his return and win a ring with Harden! It's gonna happen!

 

First of, such statements as this is obviously an attack on "(lof)Lin fans" who are implied as not "real fans." Which brings me to the definition of what is a real fan?

What do you expect from a situation such as this? It's quite obvious every board will evolve to this when anomoly such as Lin arrises. This is not a normal circumstance or event. This is like the Jackie Robinson of the Asian-American community. This is a whole social change in the media of sports for them. This is a defining moment for them. What is wrong with that and it's celebration?

Some make think he's just a basketball player but to others he's is a role model and for whomever his story inspires.

So you are going to get fans of LIN just for that and you are going to get NEW fans who are inspired to watch more basketball because of him. You can call it racial, you can call it social identity, but WHAT IS WRONG WITH THAT?

So quit b****ing about the logistics of the obvious and deal with it.

BTW, So tell me what defines a "real" basketball fan?

 

I won't banter long because I have much to do, but a real fan is a fan who appreciates the greats like Dream, Clyde, Moses Malone, Sampson, etc but still loves the newer guys like Yao, SF3, Cat, and Battier. A real fan has the patience to wait and see guys like Harden mature into the likes of great rockets before him. A fan does not come to this board for one player, a one player fan isn't a real fan. I don't care if that player is black, brown, yellow or purple, he is not greater than the teams that were and the team that is.

 

That's because they don't have to deal with LOFs anymore. Or you'd see more nuggets like the following.

 

#1 A "real" Rocket fan is someone that cares about the Rockets as a TEAM, not a single player on the team.

#2 Lin is not "Jackie Robinson", Yao Ming came before him and was an elite player. Further there was no law preventing Asians from playing in the NBAl

#3 I didn't say that LOF were not basketball fans, however some of them are not Rocket fans.

#4 I am sick of the racist taunts against Sampson that the mods have had to delete. I am sick of the crap thrown at McHale because he does not play Lin 40 minutes. I am sick of posters like EarlIII calling Harden a lazy ball hog and roots for him to fail. I am sick of every single aspect of the Rockets and their performance scrutinized in relation to how it reflects on Lin.

#4 I like Lin, I am glad he is a Rocket, I think he is a good player with a chance to be an all star calibur player. However, I do not need to read 100's of pages of how Lin has been shortchanged, beaten down and in some way held down by the Rockets because of some grand conspiracy against Lin.

#5 So, if all you care about is Jeremy Lin, and you want the other Rocket's to fail, you can...... GTFO

 

I've seen much worse on the Warriors forum than on CF. Their hate towards LOFs is strong.

 

Not at all, they're really friendly. I visit that area all the time and the people are very nice, maybe because they're a tourist town and are used to seeing and being around all different kinds of strangers

I dnt remember the bbs being like this when we first got Yao. I'm
Not Asian and yaos my favorite player of the last 10 yrs. with that said I was on this site before we got yao didn't have a ID yet. I'm a rockets fan formost and can't understand why some of these Lin fans can't be happy that us rockets fans have something to cheer about with this new young and exciting team? At least the yofs in the early 2000s actually cared about the rockets cause they took the chance on him.

If I were to speculate, I'd say that Yao was REALLY foreign and hence his fans weren't interested in coming to an English website to share their fan-dom. So the reactions were less intense.
Whereas much of Jeremy's fan support comes from English speaking people...regardless of ethnicity. Where else would they go?
