So my 2 year contract with Verizon Wireless is up for renewal. I plan on calling Verizon to see what they can offer me. Any suggestions on what to ask for and what I can expect? Any chance they might give me a deal/discount on a smartphone plan? I would love to hear about any success you have had negotiating with Verizon. Thanks.
Cell phone plans and pricing are quite different from cable/sat and internet. There's not much that can be done when it comes to getting deals on cell phone plans. Do you have an employee discount with them?
Buy a unlocked nexus 4, and then switch to T-mobile's unlimited monthly 4g. I made the switch 2months ago and i didn't sign my life away in those stupid two year contracts. If you can't switch from verizon i recommend just buying a phone upfront, contracts are simply not worth it these days.
If you renew for 2 more years you'll lose unlimited data and be switched to a Share Everything plan unless you buy a phone at full price.
There is very little negotiating on rate plans. If you are just now coming off a 2 year contract, you really have no leverage. Shop around and find the best service for you. You won't get any significant deals unless you choose to go prepaid.
As a former "Big Red" call center worker who got laid off last August, you have no leeway. They only "save" options they have is to put you in a prepaid option, which anybody can get, or some BS low cost $30/month plan with only like 300 mins. When you say your canceling, they are going to ask you which provider your going to and tell you how they have the best customer service, you get what you paid for, blah blah blah I'm not complaining, I've had the best 5 months off and counting
Yeah, I'm up too but plan on switching to Sprint, although I love Verizon's service. If I can get a new phone ('Sup Samsung Galaxy S4 in April!? ) with unlimited 4G and everything else for half of what I'm paying with Verizon I can deal with the occasional headaches of slower service when I'm on the ****ter at work. I'm not getting on a tier plan after being a loyal customer who was supposed to be "grandfathered in" before the tier network. I loathe being lied to.
Switching to Sprint will be your biggest mistake. I just moved my wife from Sprint to Verizion. It actually ended up being cheaper and she will never use up the data allowance. Whats the point of having "Unlimited" with Sprint when you can't even get good service while parked right under their cell tower? Sprint service is garbage.
If you're going to Sprint because of their unlimited 4g. You should try out T-Mobile. They also have unlimited data now. HSPA+ is so much faster than their EVDO (3G) network. Sure, T-Mobile does not have LTE but when you're not in an LTE zone with Sprint, you'll regret it. I just cancelled my last Verizon line this weekend. They have hands down the best service but they are expensive as hell, even with a corporate discount that I used to have. I've gone the route of paying up front for my phone, and paying very little for prepaid GSM service.
^No.. If you get a discounted phone, you have to upgrade your plan to one of their recent ones which have 10/20/etc plans. It will cost you more if you max it out. If you want to keep your plan, you have to pay full price which you can get a new phone for a few bucks less from ebay or amazon.
At first the service was OK then about 6 months ago there was an outage during which there was no voice or data for over 2 days. After that it was never the same even when it came back up. With Sprint we constantly experienced A LOT of dropped calls and I am not even talking about calls from inside of buildings. You could be outside in the coverage area and without any warning the call just drops. Other times you can't even dial out - it says network is busy. Then we also got many reports of people calling us and it would never ring on our end. We had 2 lines with Sprint - same issue on both Data service was very bad as well. It was extremelly slow. Almost to the point of being unusable. Many times my wife would grab my Verizon phone to look up stuff. She had the EVO 4G and could not get a reliable connection right outside of a Sprint store. Sprint customer service is a joke as well. We spent hours on the phone with them while they would submit the trouble tickets that took them forever to fill out and we never saw any improvement. Finally they told us that the service issues we are experiencing is due to all their upgrades that are in progress and there is nothing they can do until it is all done but even in the area where they said the upgrades were already completed we still could not get good service.
Ugh.....this x 1000. "Hey you guys see that Dikembe Commercial? Oh it's hilarious let me show you...hang on one second...it's buffering......any day now....alright well let me let it sit for a second and we can just talk while it loads." This will be your life with Sprint. Verizon doesn't give handouts, doesn't need to give out handouts. Just badass reception and service.
If you do renew, you can get a Samsung Galaxy S III for $49.99 and get a $50 Dell card (sell it if you don't need it) = free phone (or close to it). http://mobility.dell.com/template/s...50055-1225267-yTcDwm_WEeK27B7tkVD5Sg0_0_0_0_0
I'm still plotting my divorce from Sprint after 13 years of marriage. I want to go GSM so I can use my phone overseas, so Verizon is out of the question. I'm leaning T-Mobile at the moment, as their unlimited data plan is very appealing and I dig their prices. I'm actually not a very heavy mobile data user, but I'm pretty sure I'll need 5GB to be comfortable. Is there really any good reason to go with AT&T over T-Mobile? I might also move my wife to the new plan so maybe a shared plan is in our future.
I can't speak for other cities but i get good service for tmobile here in the H. If you're gonna go with the monthly plan i'm guessing you would save some money, but the contract plans(the one i have) only end up to be about 15 bucks cheaper than ATT.
FYI. What you're saying about Verizon is outdated. Back in the day you could not use their phones internationally but now almost every single one is global ready and supports GSM. All LTE phones use a SIM card now.
I just switched to Verizon from tmobile. So far it's looking like a great decision. The reception is flawless and I haven't lost LTE service once. Which is amazing because I live in rural NE Harris county. Tmobile's reception absolutely sucked. If you aren't in the Houston metro area you can count on missing calls, even when your phone is showing one or two bars of service. Additionally, I was with them for over six years and they never had a plan that was a perfect fit for me. It was always too many or too few minutes of talk. I guess I kind of just out grew tmobile. By the time I left, there just wasn't anything about them that was appealing.
