Uncle Bob's motto: when we sign a mediocre QB we stick with them through thick and thin no matter what; that's just the way we roll (down hill). Why make improvements when I am selling out the stadium? Really?
funny how flacco is the gold standard now. as heynow said, it wasn't too long ago no one thought Flacco was good enough, let alone Baltimore fans, to win a Super Bowl.
Because the last 6 games of this season don't mean **** in the long run? This is getting silly. You try to support Schaub against my idea he getting worse by ignoring the the FACT That he was getting worse every game for the last 6?
This right here is why I keep getting sucked back into this thread. There's a lot of room to debate Schaub's competency when games matter more - but, I'm sorry... I'm not going to let frustration and stupidity repaint history. There is not another QB in football you would objectively term "mediocre" who finished 7th, 9th, 6th, and 9th in QBR the past 4 years who compiled a 34-24 regular season record. It's absolutely concerning... which is why I've been addressing it for roughly two months now. But why do they mean more than the 54 games prior? That's the thing... you guys are great at picking and choosing. The Green Bay game? Wildly important. Denver? Yeah, not so much... It's amazing you're so oblivious to your patently obvious methodology... I've never had an issue calling out Schaub's lack of a signature win nor a desire to see him perform in the playoffs. And I'd say he still lacks that signature win and I'm nervous about him in big moments. But my grounding is: it's six games. Maybe, like, you know, the guy who just won the SB, he needs a little time...
What's the point in arguing with average redneck-type fans? They are obviously not reading anything you are writing.
no this is just you guys exagerrated line of thinking to help you feel better about your reasoning to praise schaub.. flacco isnt he gold standard nor is he better than peyton or marino.. flacco isnt even elite, he possess a few traits i wish our QB had, nothing more.. but the point of mentionin him in this thread is HE IS BETTER THAN MATT SCHAUB. PERIOD..
whats is it with the "6 games" crap.. schuabs entire career is a collection of stats and meaningless accomplishments. he hasnt regressed, hes the same guy he was 5 years ago. its just now that we have a playoff team that has potential to be a super bowl squad, we are seeing that he cant hang with the big boys. i dont know what youre expecting to see, at 32 he isnt going to come out of his show and do things hes never done. at some point youre going to need a qb that refuses to go down and force a throw somewhere. this sint shcaubs game, hes the perfect back-up qb, he wont **** the bed, but hes not going to ever win you any important games..
You're right. The Ravens have been a top 5 team in the AFC for how many years... the the Texans how many??? Furthermore, are you saying that Flacco led his team to those playoffs or was that more a function on their awesome defense? You folks are truly simpletons with your debate. Life is more complicated than QB X has more playoff wins and a SB therefore he is automatically better.
Difference between Flacco and Schaub is that Flacco is a great QB during the playoffs, and isn't very good in the regular season... but ALWAYS makes the playoffs. While Schaub is a good QB during the season but terrible in the post-season. I know who i'd pick..
That's bc no one gives a damn about the "awesome" stats schaub put up against the bucs in week 6 or the jags in week 10 or *insert meaningless regular season game here*
to ALWAYS making the playoffs, you have to have a better team around you, I really dont think Flacco could have gone to the playoffs with the '10 texans Defense. or with the texans running game before foster, making the playoffs its not only one player, its about the TEAM! Do you think Flacco would have beat New England if he was with Houston this year? the playcalling sucked, the defense was unprepared, receivers dropping passes.
Schaub is TMAC Flacco is Paul Peirce Like Tmac . . .Schaub may have the tools. . . BUT HE DOES NOT GET THE JOB DONE Paul Peirce GOT IT DONE! Which is why you stat geeks and talk about TMAC > Paul Peirce but The reality is . . when it counted .. Paul Peirce >> TMac and Flacco >> Schaub Even though their talent level maybe similar Rocket River
Flacco was an impending free agent with multiple playoff wins. So the Ravens decided to let him play the year out and let his play dictate his pay. Schaub was an impending free agent with zero playoff appearances. So the Texans decide to give him top 5-10 QB money, and then Schaub proceed to show he's no better than average(mostly due to many young QBs passing him). It's not whether or not Flacco is the gold standard. It's about an organizational approach where there's no accountability. Schaub ended last season playing the same way he's always played: safe, no urgency, no playmaking. Would the incentive to make millions more money in the offseason potentially affect his play to end the season? Maybe, maybe not. But Joe Flacco certainly turned it when it mattered. Schaub wilted instead.
