Agree, there's only one way to sing the anthem, fast and loud, ala Whitney or that Chicago opera guy. The lyrics and origins of that song are all about projecting strength and perserverence. Soulful is for something like America The Beautiful
Hmm, to my knowledge that's not how Beyonce began to receive "diva" consideration. Alicia may not be as popular but I'm pretty sure most music fans know Alicia and Jennifer Hudson have more vocal talent than Beyonce. That doesn't make them better entertainers than Beyonce. No need to put down one to raise another.
I have to admit, I didn't like her performance. It dragged way too long. I was chatting with someone and as soon as she started singing I said "This is going to take a while".
Pretty disappointed they didn't sing 'Say My Name'. Overall i thought this was one of the better shows in recent memory. As others have said, I'd much rather watch a great entertainer/good singer in Beyonce than have to sit through just watching Alicia Keys just sit in the middle of a stage playing her piano. No doubt she has a great voice but I highly doubt she can put on a good show like Beyonce did.
Can you name 5 current Pop R&B artists you listen to? It's ok if you can't, it just means you don't have much of an appreciation for that genre of music. If you can, you're in the extreme minority of folks who like this type of music but don't like one of it's current biggest sellers. And, Beyonce's dancing is a significant part of her act. If you don't like that style of dance then of course you won't like her moves. I only like maybe a couple metal bands, so I'm not going to comment on how awful I think a metal band is when in reality I don't listen to that genre much.
I hate R&B music in general, but I don't really think Beyonce is THAT R&B. When she was with Destiny's Child she was more R&B I suppose. There are a few R&B acts that I thought were great and I actually like and listen to: 1. SWV, love that group. 2. Early Jodeci pre-all that FREAK N YOU, BS. 3. Early Mariah Cary
