So Astros got an A-ball catcher with arm problems, a AAA pitcher with control issues, and a journeyman for Lowrie? Not bad. — Will Carroll (@injuryexpert) February 4, 2013
In 2012, Baseball America rated Carter as the #7 overall prospect and Stassi the #14 prospect in the Athletics system, while Peacock was the #3 prospect in the Nationals system. I'm awaiting my copy of the 2013 Handbook to see where they stand now. Carter probably graduated out of the minors, and I would imagine that Stassi would have broken into the top 10 after a rebound season last year. Despite that 6.00 ERA, I'm thinking Peacock was still a top-10 guy in that system.

I want to thank @athletics organization for everything they have done for me, extremely excited to start a new chapter with the @astros !!!!
— Max Stassi (@MaxStassi10) February 5, 2013

I can't recall the A's insider that was on CSH about 15 minutes ago, but he absolutely loves the trade for the Astros. Raved about Carter and mentioned Peacock had a shaky year partly due to the experimenting they were doing with guys in the field behind him.
As far as where I think Stassi and Peacock would stand in the Astros' system: Stassi will be duking it out with Carlos Perez and Tyler Heineman as the system's top catcher. He could start out in Corpus. Peacock is probably a notch below Jarred Cosart and Lance McCullers. I think that he's in the 2nd tier of starters with Nick Tropeano, Asher Wojciechowski, and Mike Foltynewicz. I expect him to occupy one of the rotation spots in OKC. This could result in Paul Clemens moving to the bullpen. Given that the Astros organization has been dramatically revamped prospect-wise, Stassi is probably a mid-to-high teens prospect, and Peacock is probably in the 10-15 range.

Guess I should have checked the next page, it was just posted lol. I like this trade. Brad peacock is a good strikeout pitcher that can stike out 9+. Also dont mind how 6 ERA, it was in the hitter friendly PCL and his FIP was a solid 4.26 and his SIERRA was 4.08
I wonder if Carlos Pena is already expendable. Wallace and Carter can platoon between 1b and DH. Before, it was likely that one of Gonzalez or Green would have started in the minors. Now it appears they'll need both on the 25-man. Pena seems like he's just not necessary any more...even more so if they want to keep the Rule 5 pick.
Well, that was before I read this tweet...

#Houston #Astros envision Brad Peacock as a future No. 2 starter with legit #MLB potential.
— Brian T. I understand what he's saying here, but when it comes right down to it, most trades that involve multiple prospects, particularly deals that don't involve a bonafide supstar going the other way, have many of the same question marks.
Aren't players that were already on the 25 man roster automatically added to a 40 man roster if traded? Peacock has good potential, he has a mid 90s heater and strikes out a great amount of players. He isn't the type of player I would have wanted for lowrie, but he is still a good pitcher. Plus we got a hitter with legit power and a good defensive/power catcher. I wonder how many more trades Luhnow pulls off before the season starts

i hope they keep him. At this point seems like Wallace/Dominguez are at risk to go back to AAA if they keep Freiman. Of course Freiman already seemed like the RH 1B/DH bat to pair with the Singleton long-term. Carter could play LF, which means they could short an OFer. JD, Fernando, & Carter would all be relegated to a corner spot. If they see him playing primarily LF this season, I think JD goes back to OKC.
