They have the same amount of Playoff wins, Super Bowls and Super Bowl MVPs.

The play that stands out is the 30+ yard pass to Boldin I beleive
Flacco was flushed out . . . being a Texans fan . . .when he threw the ball high
I thought he was throwing it away.
    Then Boldin makes a leaping catch . . .
I was like  THE BALL DID NOT SAIL OUT OF BOUNDS!!!
he was out of the pocket and running and threw it TO A RECEIVER . . .IN BOUNDS!!

    Schaub doesn't make that play . . .

Schaub doesnt scramble if flushed out of the pocket...he cowers into fetal position if touched within the pocket...

This is the same thing I said when it happened. Now a couple of the biggest Schaub apologist (father-in-law, and bro-in-law) are now starting to say the same thing about Schaub, "he just can't make those type of plays".

I've lost IQ points reading some of the drivel in this thread.

The newest absolute least surprising development of 2013… ubigred crawls out of his hole and sees Joe Flacco’s shadow, meaning we all have three months of whining ahead of us...

Honestly… for all the anti-Schaub crowd, Flacco winning the Super Bowl is probably the worst development for your position (not that I’d expect any of you to have enough perspective to realize it).

Flacco made 64 regular season starts before he put together back-to-back good playoff performances (which happened last year). In his first seven postseason starts, he posted a 61.1 QBR, or worse, in 5 of them including an 18.2 and 10.0. As a regular season QB, Flacco was being run out of Baltimore as recently as December 22, 2012.

Flacco is proof that sometimes… this is a process that takes time. Between 2008 and 2010, he was 2-8 against Pittsburgh/New England/ Indianapolis. Four of his first five playoff starts were outright disasters (QBRs: 59.1; 18.2; 10.0; 48.4). Goggle “Joe Flacco” and “choke artist” and you’ll find no end to threads in forums just like this one.

Schaub has to prove he can consistently and ultimately get over the hump. But if he can, he’s been a better regular season QB than Flacco… as such, what happened last night should not be viewed as impossible for Schaub and the Texans. Fair to have doubts (I do, as well)... but not insane.

    Nice try Hey Now!

Shaub is 31, has been a starting QB for 6 seasons while missing 16 games with injuries and has 1 playoff win.

Flacco is 28, has been a starting QB for 5 seasons NEVER missing a game with 9 playoff wins, 1 SB win and a SB MVP.

One is drasticly disimilar to the other.

    Agree with your assessment.

It would be nice to upgrade at QB (and other positions for that matter) but resources are limited and great QBs are not readily available.

You left off, "One is named Matt; the other Joe. They are not the same."

The less literal point is that this isn't always an overnight process. Flacco took his lumps, had his failures, was on the verge of being run out of town (as recently as less than two months ago) before he finally got over the hump. Schaub may not have the mental capacity to win at a high level in this league. Or, he might simply need some experience before he's ready to make that leap. Same as Flacco.

Well if you go by that hypothesis don't expect to see Scahub in a Superbowl until 2016!

Isn't Flacco physically much stronger than Schaub, and can get the ball from point A to B a lot faster, whereas Schaub is one of the weaker-armed QB's and has to rely a lot more on misdirection etc? I would think you'd be more poised to break through with the former rather than the latter.

    Yes.......

There was no question about Flacco's tools, only whether he would put it all together. He also had done very well in the playoffs in the past as well.

Shaub lacks the arm strength and is older than Flacco. I don't think it is a good comparison.

A larger point that HEYNOW would be better making is that there is no way in hell to know who will win the Super Bowl based on the last half dozen years.

Sure, they're different physically. But I think people would be shocked to see their numbers side-by-side.

    Since 2008:
    Schaub: 94.1 QBR; 65% completion; 105 TDs; 55 INTs; 7.9 YPA; 2,373 attempts
    Flacco: 86.3 QBR; 61% completion; 102 TDs/56 INTs; 7.1 YPA; 2,489 attempts

Too bad Flacco didn't have Andre Johnson to throw to. Instead, he had 34 year old Derrick Mason and Mark Clayton as his starting receivers, all while being a rookie.

Furthermore, he did admirably , considering he faced the Steelers and Bengals (very good defense w/ Hall and Joseph) twice a year (all outdoor stadiums).

At the very least , Flacco evolved and progressed. Schaub? He learned the playbook. Major difference.

So what's Schaub's excuse for not progessing? Seems like a down turn if you ask me.

I love how Andre Johnson suddenly becomes more than adequate when we're discussing Matt Schaub’s competency. What if Flacco had Kevin Walter as his #2 instead of Torrey Smith, ubigred?

Speaking of…I'm sure it was just a coincidence that once the Ravens found a competent WR2 (Smith was drafted in '11) to go along with a beasting WR1( Boldin in '10) that Flacco finally made the leap.

Would that be the same Bengals Schaub beat this year in the playoffs? Heck, the same Bengals TJ Yates beat twice last year (once outdoors!!!)? Yeah, real powerhouse there… And Flacco never played the Ravens.

Yeah, expect... that's not true. In the regular season, he’s actually been regressing (93.6 QBR in '10; 80.9 and 87.7 the past two years). If you mean in the postseason, sure - it took him six games to post a 100+ QBR and it wasn't until his 8th and 9th that he strung together back-to-back good playoff games.

He's been exceptionally good in his last six, including his 4-game run this year. But this has been 9 postseason games in the making. And again, as recently as December 22, Raven fans wanted to run him out of town.

Can we wait to see how Schaub bounces back in 2013 before we allow 6 games to determine that he's permnantly regressing? He posted a 96.8 QBR in '11 before getting hurt and was holding steady at 94.5 through the first 12 games this year.

Schaub has NOTHING to worry about.
He *will* start all the game he can next year.
It *DOES NOT MATTER* what other QB is on the staff or available
Kubiak has made up his mind already

With that type of job security . . . .
