I think a better plan would be to let Lin be the point guard playing with harden, let Harden ISO when Lin is out.

TD seem to jack too many shots playing with Harden, what TD should do is hand ball to Harden and stand in corner.

    by making him the passer

And lin should play pf. He post defends well and he rebounds well. I think he's 100% (1 or 1) in post play as well.

Didn't you say you coached a little league basketball team or something before? I'm gonna go out on a limb here and trust the front office and coaching staff, with all their resources and time spent observing the players in practice, over your (Lin-biased) armchairing.

You repeat the same things ad nauseam in your game thread posts, did this really need its own thread? We get it, you don't like anyone who takes Lin's pt (TD/Mchale) or hurts his 1 or 2 assist stats (Asik) by not finishing. Btw, those same "stone hands" are responsible for top 3 rebounding in the league, 2nd only to Dwight and Z-Bo, and they also help assist or clean up after Lin when he gets in trouble (since that's the only guy you care about here). Notice it's only Lin fans calling Asik "stone hands"? How would you like if we start calling Lin "paperweight'?

And btw, regardless of how much blame you like to shift to Mchale, there is an entire coaching staff and front office who actively have a say in how players are used and things are run- that's why they picked him.

I, like most of you, would love to see Beverley get more playing time. Like most of you said, if he isn't what they thought, just drop his minutes back down or give them to TD. Like hkomives said, Lin get's sloppy when he plays with the second unit so maybe there needs to be a trade made to bring someone new to the second unit for the pick and roll game?

P.S. First post on the forum guys, be gentle.

    You're getting me twisted.
Asik is the most important player on this team imo, even more than Harden. Lin is a distant 3rd though a case could be made for even Parsons to be up there as well. But, why does it irk you that I want the best possible outcome for our team and to want Lin's abilities to be maximized?

    Cuz of the chocolate bunny??

I love Asik and I hate that McHale is forced to bring him out with noone to adequately replace him. But, it is true that sometimes due to his "stone" hands, Mac has to bring him out even when he's not tired. Getting Asik proper minutes distribution and to involve him in key moments is an even more important quandary to deal with but I just don't see a solution with our current team make-up as we need another tough backup C and a defense/rebound minded PF that we don't have. I've stated as much multiple times in multiple threads.

The PG situation, on the other hand, can be fixed with proper utilization of the talent at hand, in my frank and humble opinion. So, as I've only coached a youth league team, a church team, and only played HS ball, I'm not allowed to criticize the coaching staff? I see what I see, and I'm stating my opinion. Were I the Rockets coach, I may goof it up as well and it won't be the first time, but sometimes outside observers can see things better than the coaches. There are so many things to watch that it's easy to lose the big picture without outside critique. I'm a pg through and through. My favorite basketball player, Magic, was a pg, I played pg all my life, I've coached exciting young pgs (kids, mind you), so I'm passionate about pgs. So what?

I think you're getting too sensitive to posters who are a fan of Lin's game. If I stated this kind of critique on behalf of Asik, you wouldn't be so quick to criticize and condescend.

FYI, I've never ever criticized Asik for "blowing" an assist for Lin as I'm certain that Harden may feel the same way about Lin cuz he doesn't shoot when Harden sets him up. The "stone" hands critique is self-contained and does not relate with Lin at all. That's something he needs to work on for the betterment of our team.

C'mon bro. Don't be so negative toward me. I actually like some of your straight-up posts, anti-Lin or not. Why so negative.

    A couple of more points.

    - there are many coaches and front offices that mis-judge and mismanage many aspects of basketball teams. You can't say that they always know better cuz that's not true.

    - I'm "Lin-biased" not cuz I know dude, but cuz I recognize and am empathetic toward his game, as a pg. When he trucks it out there, I see it as well as anyone. That's not biased. If Harden was sat for TD, or if Asik was sat for Smith for great chunks of time in the 4th and it led to losses, I'd be calling those out as well, and have.

    - I only criticize TD cuz he's less capable as a pg and still he's given more trust than Lin, and cuz the coaching staff feel he is an adequate backup at the 1 spot. I strongly disagree. You'll notice that I've never criticized Beverley once, not even when he replaced Lin in the fourth. I was also intrigued by him, and actually am not happy about playing TD again over him, cuz although his shots stopped dropping for him, he still ran the pg position well, but I guess the coaching staff knows better...

    - Lin is not the "only" player I like. That's a ridiculous way of calling me a LOF for supporting Lin and seeing his promise.

    - I do not typically criticize Asik, except to call a spade a spade. Just as when Lin has ridiculously lazy bouts of play. Just as when Lin doesn't play aggressively as he should (not recently). Just as when Lin over helps (especially early in the season).

-The "blowing assists" argument is ridiculous. I've never paid attention to that kind of talk, as stats are meaningless in comparison to wins, and Asik is largely responsible for our winning season. Why you attribute that singular comment on Asik as "hate" is cuz you are over-sensitive to people who are Lin fans.

raskol, I appreciate your effort but the reality of the situation is that Lin is seen as a so-so role player, on the same level as TD. So, Lin's 4th qtr minutes depend on whether TD completely sucks it up or not. When Lin gains the trust of the coaching staff, then he'll be able to finish to games.

I wonder wonder why so many LOHs saying that LIN is at the same level as TD. Even McHale knows to put Lin on the court when Bobcats rallied.

Raskol, fully agree with your advice, I prefer to watch the games orchestrated by PG instead of plenty of ISO

Lin is way, way, better than Toney Douglas.

It's not a skill thing - it's that Douglas prefers to jack up a shot rather than making the optimal move. He's actually the better shooter of the two - just that in our game vs Bobcats, he took more shots than either Harden or Lin, and made less then either as well, in much less minutes.

Lin actually plays as a point guard, and seeks to make his teammates better.

I think you're own biases are showing pretty badly here.

And if the front office and coaches were always right, then no team would ever need to fire or replace them

Wow, is Jocar basically actually calling the whole Chicago Bulls fanbase "LOF"? Are we seeing him turn into from a Rockets fan into a LOH before our very eyes? I hope you're deliberately trolling, Jocar, because otherwise you would look very foolish. The stone-hands criticism originated in Chicago, long before Asik ever became a Rocket or joined a team with Jeremy Lin. I mean, trolling Clutchfans is one thing, but at least be smarter about it. How can anyone take you seriously if you're calling the Chicago Bulls fanbase "Lin fans" because they say Omer has stone hands, before he's ever even joined the Rockets? Logic, it works.

You know, I really thought people were being facetious until today. I thought they were just joking. I did not know that they really believe TD has been better than Lin. Wow. How did I miss that?? I guess, without giving him the benefit of the doubt, and hearing over and over again that last year was a fluke and that he's overrated, then to see him perform like he has, they can't see it. Sigh~ I'm always on the other teams game threads to see how they see our boys, and without a doubt, the blind hate toward Lin is ridiculous. In last night's game, literally all the major game threads were talking about how Kemba was having his way with Lin and that Lin couldn't score a basket unless Kemba wasn't paying attention. And this was in the first half!! In the SA game, there was not one mention of Lin except to say he is the most overrated player in the league. Really. This is true in every thread I go to, with almost no exception. Parsons is great. Asik is a good get. Harden gets every call in the world/he's awesome. Lin is the worst pg in the league/ he can't guard xxx tonight.
To each is own, I guess

Give Douglas's back up PG minutes to Beverly and play TD at back up SG when Harden needs a breather. just leave his defensive assignment guarding the opposing PG while Lin guards the SG. TD has shown he cant be the fascilitator and we need someone who can come in off the bench and run the offense. Beverly is better suited for that role.

I'd send this out to McHale and forge Les' signature if I could.

I pretty much agree with you Raskol - nice post. I would play Beverley as Lin's backup instead of TD and see how he does. If he doesn't cut it then I would look for another backup point guard. McHale doesn't seem to get that TD can't run the offense and lately has been playing him without Lin OR Harden for short stretches. Playing TD with Harden is not very efficient either because it takes away from Harden's effectiveness as a scorer. Probably the best non-starter combinations would be Lin with TD and Beverley with Harden.

The 4th Q let's see how it goes before I decide whether my starter gets back in has to go. Once in a while if a unit is really hot it's a good strategy but with McHale it seems to be his standard operating procedure.

i don't know how they should distribute, but if they insist on running a lot of point with harden, when lin is in..why do they stop and let douglas run the point when lin goes out? It doesn't make any sense. douglas is best with his 40% SPOT up shooting.

Also harden and lin should never be on the bench at the same time, unless one of them is being careless with the ball and the other is shooting 24%

You know, I tried to give the benefit of the doubt to the "haters" and thought about what I would think if I didn't like Lin cuz of personal reasons and if I would still sit Lin.. And I realized that Beverley was exactly that! I don't know Beverley from Cleverley but I noticed very clearly that he brought a pg mentality that TD just did not have and that I would rather see what he's about. And the was in just a few games! So, my conclusion was that I'm not the one who was being biased, but rather them. How can they want TD over a penetrating pg with vision?? They're being blinded out of some weird hatred toward Lin and his sudden rise to fame. I mean it is everywhere. Very similar to the hate toward Apple products and the Sony PS3 backlash by kids who have to be cool and hate something popular.

Now, I'm not taking about some here who don't believe in Lin but are being straight up, just the ones who are almost willfully blinding themselves from seeing what Lin could bring. TD and Lin are on the same level my butt. You don't know basketball if you say that wih a straight face. I wouldn't hire you in my company with judgement like that ever, lest my boys starve to death!!

Sooo... the point of this thread was..... More PT for Lin???... and less for TD???.... Such insight.

In all seriousness, The PG position isn't one of strength on this roster despite Lin's occassionally great performances. Other than that, its an extremely volitile position that in a constant state of flux from a play quality standpoint. You can't coach it with the notion that you know EXACTLY what you are going to get on a nightly basis. You never really know what you are going to get for the most part.

In all reality TDouglas is NOT a long term building block for this team moving forward, and I do expect him to be moved in the next couple of weeks. I do think he's done a solid job throughout the first half of the season, and deserves a role on another playoffs team as a backup moving forward.

I do think Beverly has enough to offer to be the backup moving forward after the trade deadline, but as you could see in his first week with the team, he has trouble getting a little over zealous on defense to draw dumb fouls, and is a little out of control sometimes offensively. With a few more weeks in the league I think he should be fine if they need to move TD.

So, Im not really sure what the point of this argument should be? Lin is the starter clear as day, and if he's struggling to make his imprint on the game, the backup(whoever that is) has a different look to give the team late in games if needbe. Not sure what's so wrong with that unless you are a LOF with a bias opinion. He's going to start and play 25 to 30 minutes a game nightly enough he's struggling, and then you have another look at the PG position to go to. Nothing wrong with that.
