    Who's whining? I'm a Texans fan.

Doesn't change the fact that a team cheated (holding) KNOWING they could get away with it. Game situation should have absolutely no bearing. Teams shouldn't benefit in any way from breaking the rules.

The NFL should apologize to the Ravens offense for the effing power going out during superbowl. How does that even happen?

That ruined the Ravens momentum. Football is hugely based on momentum.

    What? How is it cheating?

It's a hold..they are allowed to hold; they just get penalized. The point is that it is a penalty and safety (if in the end zone), but the NFL rules are not to add time back onto the clock at the point of infraction.

Did you think the NFL rules put time back on the clock?

And even if they did...49ers would still need a 60-70 yrd Hail Mary to win. This is a really weak argument.

This is like saying in the NBA, teams shouldn't be allowed to intentionally foul. Intentionally holding (if that was the plan) is perfectly legal. It's not cheating.

    move on

Outage or not...once the lights go out, they cannot be turned on for 30 minutes. I worked at an indoor tennis club with lights like that. All it would take is for someone mistakenly turning off the lights for there to be a 30 minute delay.

Once they are out, you can't turn these bulbs back on until they cool off...because they will explode. And then after about 20 or so minutes of cooling off, the lights just don't turn on right away. They take about 5 minutes to get to full illumination. This happened in the Astrodome at a Rolling Stones concert between bands. It took 30 minutes for them to turn the lights back on. They said the problem was the mistakenly got turned off....not a power outage.

This appears to be the same thing, except the automatic system turned off the lights...mistakenly.

The point here is the Ravens got the advantage from the penalty. That shouldn't happen. Ever. There is a reason its called a "Penalty".

Game situation makes no difference. The NFL needs to take a look at this and make some changes.

They need to change the rules. Every team would hold in that situation because the time lost on the play is way more valuable than the yardage or the safety.

Yeah the hold on the safety would not have made any difference.

The hold in the endzone was a terrible no call.

Lets not forgot, Ed Reed was lined up offsides on that 2-pt conversion as well.

Regardless, 9ers did have many chances and it should have never come down to that.

I can understand the holding plays being a non call. What I don't understand is the 3rd down play at the end of the game. Even though the receiver didn't catch the ball he was still clearly hit by the defender with a helmet to helmet shot or defenseless receiver hit. But I see noone anywhere mention it, not even the commentators.

NBA teams get an advantage for intentionally fouling all the time.

    It's not cheating.

All you are saying is the NFL should review the rules to put time back on the clock at the moment of a penalty. If that rule was already in place, then the Ravens probably would not have intentionally held...if that was their plan.

Regardless...49ers would still need to do a 60-70 yrd Hail Mary pass. This is just a weak complaint. move on.

Wait, what?? Are we talking about the throw to Crabtree, or the safety on the punt where the SF D-lineman was held?? I'm pretty sure it wasn't a safety guarding Crabtree......but that could have been defensive holding (which does not need to ball to be catchable) on Baltimore's CB on that (I think it was Jimmy Smith), but there's no way they throw that flag.

And the 49ers got an advantage from a missed PI call in the first quarter. What's your point here? There were missed calls all through the game for both teams. Just because it occurred near the end of the game doesn't make it any worse than the other missed calls.

Whats my point? I've only made it 2 times.

Here it is for those who have comprehension problems.

TEAMS SHOULDN'T BENEFIT FROM DOING SOMETHING THAT IS A PENALTY.

What is so hard to understand about that?!

And again, I'll say, that BOTH TEAMS benefitted from something that was a penalty. So I don't understand why you're only blaming the Ravens here. You're looking at just one play because it was near the end of the game. There were other missed calls that if called would have also affected the outcome of the game.

    Dude just stop. You're whining.
Your being a Texans fan doesn't change the fact that you're whining about the non-call and makes you sound even worse considering that apparently you're not even a 49ers fan. (No it doesn't make you sound impartial when you say you're a Texans fan, whining is whining).

This was a unique situation where a team used holding (a penalty) to run out the clock. This is creating an advantage by using illegal conduct that they shouldn't gain advantage from.

We already know that a team can't end the half on a defensive penalty...why should a team kicking be able to essentially do the same?

Oh I get it. Since you disagree with me, I'm whining. I was under the impression this is a discussion board where we are having a discussion

Wait....if not....does that mean you're whining about me?

I didn't lose any money. I didn't have any reason to pull for one side or another.

I thought the game was fairly well called (on those PI's that should have been called on the 49ers, I thought Torrey Smith was hand-fighting just as much, if not more), but I can't get over the goal line play. It should spur a rule change. Any time you can go out and tell your team to blatantly commit a penalty so that you can run out the clock and win the game, there's something wrong with that.

Imagine in the NBA, it's the finals, game 7, and the Heat are up 5 with 10 seconds left to go. James Harden has the ball, and Lebron comes out and wraps him up for 7 seconds, knowing that the refs won't blow the whistle because, the Rockets wouldn't win anyways?

Anyways, as far as the fourth and goal goes, that was a good no call. Kapaernick missed out when, on second and goal, he did not attempt to run the ball in. He was about six yards out, with one defender with nobody in front of him, and one defender with a receiver draped on him. He throws to the covered receiver. You gotta run that in and make your legend at that point. Worst case is your team has two more plays from the two or three yard line (unless you fumble).

You want the 49ers to win. I get that. But get mad at the coach for not running 4 times on 1st and goal to win the game instead of holding call in the final seconds that would have 0 bearing on the outcome.

Yeah, this is the huge major unbelievable point staring at the 49ers all off season. pocketrocket81 makes a good point too, but overall, I'm in favor of the zebras letting them play in the last minute or so.

I wish I had put money on the game, b/c I just knew the 49ers secondary would get lit up since our D line wasn't fully healthy.

    (c) Offensive team commits a foul and spot of enforcement is behind its own goal line.

I think they would have gotten the safety but I don't recall there ever been a rule to put time back on the clock.

While in the NFL you can move the ball to the SPOT OF THE FOUL
There are no rules to return the clock to the TIME OF THE FOUL
Never have been from what I recall .. . that only happens when
    1. The play never should have been ran
    or
    2. A player was allow to continue after they were indeed down . . .
Neither happened here .. . so calling the holding would have made NO DIFFERENCE.
