Spoiler http://deadspin.com/5979970/facebook-data-provides-the-most-accurate-nfl-fandom-map-ever-created I guess the Texans recent season didn't change much. How are the cowboys so popular? Both the lakers and yankees have won in last 10 years whereas Dallas has not.
Any sports apparel shop or chain here in Phoenix sells 40% Cowboys merch, 60% Cardinals merch. It's strange....
If the Texans ever win the Super Bowl, half of Texas would become Texans fans. I remember Astros "fans" coming out of the woodwork all over the state when they were in the World Series. The Texans haven't done enough yet to be relevant outside of Houston in terms of converting fans......but they're on the radar now.
It's just going to take the Texans winning superbowls to convert a lot of Texas. Most sports fans are band wagon casuals.
Too bad so many of the colors are so close to each other. I can't make out the difference from a few of them.
I'm surprised Houston hasn't expanded more. Doesn't seem like the last two seasons made a large dent. Anyone live in San Antonio? Are there a lot of Texans fans there? I'd like to know the story behind those areas that are Cowboy territory, although not in Texas and completely surrounded by other fans.
i think its pretty pathetic that all of texas, outside of houston, is cowgirl fans.. what incentive did someone in victoria/brownsville/west texas, have to pick the cowboys over the oilers other than the girls were super bowl winners.. band wagon, front runners. fccuk em all.. thats why ill never cut for a houston cowboys fan.. they can all eat a bag of diicks.
This is based off Facebook and people 'liking' team pages so it isn't that comprehensive, but what it does seem to indicate that the top bandwagon teams of the NFL are what you would expect, Dallas, Pittsburgh, Green Bay and New England. Also the 50 people in Alaska love the Packers like they were their own.
It's the Texans own fault. I've said this since their inception. They've done nothing in the way of growing the brand outside of Greater Houston. Nothing at all. From the beginning they should have had at least a part of training camp in central Texas. When they did caravans, it was the assistant trainer, backup deep snapper and a practice squad WR. They only have themselves to blame.
