The Pacers are going to make a play-offs push this season, and if they fall short once again I think they'll probably deal Danny Granger.

Paul George is clearly an all-star talent. He's 5th in defensive ranking and 2nd in defensive win shares and is the key behind the Pacers elite defense. He allows them to play single-coverage against elite wing players so they can shut down driving and passing lanes.

He's clearly not a SG though, and nor is Danny Granger. Moving forward the Pacers will have to deal one of them unless they're confident Paul George and Danny Granger can co-exist and believe they can move Granger in 2015-2016 when Paul George is due for his max contract.

That's an unlikely scenario, imo, unless they make the ECF and come to the brink of beating the Heat.

I think Granger is our guy, but I'm not sure if Morey has the assets to bid for him.

His FG% has gone down every season he's been in the league. Last season it was 41.6%. He's a volume shooter too.

Would have to see how he plays with that knee... But if the Rockets where going to upgrade at the small forward spot I think Deng would be a much better choice and Chicago may be looking to move him.

this is clear to everyone except the Pacers fans. ask about it on the Pacers forum, people would /sigh. but on espn and everywhere else, it's clear to everyone.

I think Granger could be traded because it will be hard to re-sign him and stay under tax.

But other than that... Are the Pacers going to go small and run like the Rockets? then what, retire Hibbert and David West? George can defend any perimeter player from a tiny point guard to a big 3 at this point. He's not a 2 or a 3. He's a 2/3 like many other super athletic wings of similar size.

We also need a legit post threat, and a legit 2nd star.

Too many people on these boards are sitting around assuming the only way to cover these shortcomings is all in the one player. But short of Kevin Love falling into our laps, I can't see who fits those criteria??

Granger would be an excellent add to this squad down the stretch.
There is no 'legit 4' in free agency who can fill the bill of 2nd star. We're better off rolling over and looking for them in the 2014 FA class. Granger is an expiring in 2014, and we could make a deal with the Pacers which helps them NOW, and clears cap room for them this summer so that they can address some of the issues with their squad and attempt to turn it into a contender.

We could take Granger, Green and a pick from them and send them Delfino, Patterson, Douglas and Aldrich.
Now: gives them the backup 2/3 that they need in Delfino. Also gives them a 3pt threat as backup PG in Douglas. Patterson is probably a better option at backup PF than they currently have.
Then: Gives them nearly $25m in cap room this summer. They can choose to spend it how they like - but if they take Delfino's option, keep West, they'd still have stacks of cash to chase OJ Mayo.

I think it's a no-brainer on our part if we can get Granger and a pick for a bunch of backups....

Saying Paul George can't play 2 is like saying Lebron couldn't play the 4 because he's a small forward. It's a very archaic way of thinking, especially with the way the league is becoming.

We should trade Yao before he gets any major injuries for this guy. I know he is a rare center but with a work load and weight, I dont see his feet holding up. George is a rookie with major upside, maybe we can swing hibbert in the deal too.

I thought Granger would have been traded last year. You could see just how good George was last year.

I can't see them keeping him either. George is basically the younger, more athletic and better version of Granger at this point.

Granger is still a fine player, assuming recovery from injuries. His FG% is not very high this is in part because he takes a ton of 3s. He also gets to the line a decent amount. Overall, he is a decently efficient offensive player. He also plays pretty good defense.

He looks like a Morey player (and this doesn't even consider that he had a high GPA in high school and could have gone to an Ivy League school).

Pacers may well keep him, but their salary and roster structure may mean that they have some reasons to consider trading him as soon as right now. Specifically, if they keep him, the Pacers are more or less stuck without cap room in the near future other than what it takes to resign West in 2013 and George in 2014 (and Granger needs to be resigned or let go in 2014 too). This means they'll basically have the same team plus some low draft picks and low to mid end FAs-- assuming they have the money to pay for them. Indy is historically on the low end of team income bracket-- in fact I think the city of Indianapolis pays something like $10M a yr in operation costs.

On the other hand, if they trade Granger for cheaper and/or expiring contracts now, they can have room to add a high $ FA plus resigning David West (who is good but aging) or maybe even add two goo high $ FAs if they let West go. This is in addition to whatever assets they get out of a Granger trade. The team can certainly use some assess, too, like a younger potenrial future replacement for David West, better perimeter shooters (their offense, particularly 3 pt shooting, is bad) and a competent backup PG (Augustin has not been good). And draft picks, everyone can use draft picks.

The style we play, he would be a great fit. Both he and Parsons have been used as a stretch 4 in their careers so they would a nice interchangeable 3/4 combo.
BUT if we are sold on this style of play we need to find a legit backup 5 who can provide similar D and rebounding as Asik
