I support some of the new gun regulations, but clearly as long as we are focusing on schools armed security is the best answer. They are present in about 30% of schools right now and we need to find the funding to put at least one in every school.

You can't prevent someone with access to guns from easily killing someone.

I know lots of gun owners who never kill anyone.... I've raised the question before and it's never been answered and is probably not answerable, but how many of these gun deaths involve criminals killing criminals?

99.9% of the driving-while-texting deaths involve pure innocents, therefore I tentatively conclude that outlawing texting will save more (or an approximate number of) innocent lives.... so where's the insistence on banning texting?

So what we really need to do is confiscate the phones then?

No we should give everyone phones and encourage them to text while driving. The swiss do it look where it got them.

A murderer isn't one until he kills someone. I don't give a damn if you've never killed someone. All it takes is you having access to a gun and a bad afternoon to change all of that.

Texts aren't designed to make it easier to kill.

So all gun owners are a ticking time bombs waiting to go off on a killing spree?

I woke up late. My boss yelled at me. My lunch was cold. I got in a car accident on the way home. Wife yelled at me. Yup! Next logical step is to go shoot someone.

The things people say to justify their opinions

Certainly not, but this whole responsible gun owner thing is preposterous. Everyone is responsible until they're not. Relying on the responsibility of people not to use deadly weapons for their intended purpose is ridiculous.

This idea that more guns equals safety is also ridiculous. Guns don't prevent murders. Anyone at any time can walk straight up to you and blow you away. No matter how responsible a gun owner you might be. Dead people don't return fire.

Nah, I think we should make encourage everyone to text while driving. Better yet remove speed limits, remove street lights too. Everyone is an adult so everyone can decide how they want to drive! We're all adults! We don't need traffic signs, rules, or any other regulations. Amirite?

Just like in gun control its not the responsible that are being targeted. They are expected to make a necessary sacrifice to ensure safety for the greater good. Its not an ideal situation but this is not an ideal world.

    THIS.

A law is only effective in so far as an awareness of that law convinces someone to respect the law. Otherwise a law is only good as leverage in bringing charges against someone. It prevents nothing.

Of course not. The number of accidents would be astronomical... compared to accidents associated with gun ownership.

lol the classic pro-gun narrative rears it's ugly head once again. First it was "what about cars?" Now it's "but what about phones?" Do you have any idea how ridiculous you sound?

Don't forget... "what about lightning?" and "what about 3D printers?". Oh how the NRA and gun industry controls thought in America...

The numbers of deaths (which is what is fueling this debate) are proximate. Why are you able to rush to a conclusion on one but can only laugh at the other? Seems like you have a deep bias on the matter.

This is a misleading argument as many schools have armed security. The ones that don't may for example be elementary schools where security officers aren't needed on a daily basis and the chances of a random shooting are a fraction of a percent. In cases like that armed officers would be a waste of money and resources. And no we don't need teachers carrying in the classsroom either. The answer is not to add more guns, but to find ways to get them out of the wrong hands.

Please link me to the data that says texting and driving deaths are "proximate" to gun deaths in America. TIA.
