So the offseason will just be filled with a bunch of Schaub haters hating. Might just have to dodge the Texans forum until draft time comes around.
FWIW, Dilfer complimented Schaub, but not in the way that would classify him as elite. He said he's not Rodgers or Brady or Manning but that he didn't need to be. He said he can still improve. If you ask Brady/Manning if they can still get better, they'll tell you they can. Schaub can still get better. He said Schaub's not a QB who can take over games, who can carry a team by himself, but also that he doesn't need to be. He said he understands fans wanting a QB who can do more but if you're going to replace Schaub, you have to know you can get somebody better. He asked "who is out there that's available that's better". He seemed well aware of who Schaub is as a QB, his strengths and his weaknesses. He didn't think we could improve the position at the moment but sounded like he thought we didn't need to. That if we patch our other holes, that Schaub is good enough to get the team to the Super Bowl.
Sounds like you. You start a thread with ELITE in all caps, you go after anyone who rightfully says Schaub isn't elite, and then you pretend it all never happened.
i always thought this thread title was meant to be sarcastic until i actually read OP's post. you crazy
We're 83 pages into a thread I've actively participated in - please, please, please tell me in what way am I pretending this thread never happened? I stand by my original post and will maintain until time ends that, for a 16-game stretch, during which the team won 15 and Schaub had a Brady/Manning/Rodgers-like 8 games with a QBR of 100+, that he was playing at an elite level. And I have no issue admitting that, over the final six games this year, other than the first Colt game, he was terrible and has emerged as a concern entering 2013. So, again: what am I hiding from?
lol this is hilarious.. hes beat some BAD teams to get his record up and put up huge numbers against lax defenses with big leads.. this isnt an argument about elite/non-elite anymore. its a pull the plug on him argument. lets end the schaub era, he wasnt a winner when he was 25, hes not a winner now. scared qbs make the mistakes he makes and hes made the same mistakes for 6 years.. lol "consistently perform at a high level for the 62 previous games" HAHAHAHAHAHAHAA
This is where a greater understanding of the current NFL landscape is handy. Since 2007, 126 teams have won 9 or fewer games. Meaning, in an average regualr season, an NFL team will play 11 teams that will win 9 or fewer games. IOW, *every* NFL QB, even the elitist of the elite, fattens up on mediocre competition. This is not exclusive to Schaub. Peyton Manning last year played 11 teams with 9 or fewer wins; Brady 10; Rodgers 9; Ryan 14 (!)… I don’t have any issue with an expectation that Schaub should play better against the better teams. After a nice start (Denver and Baltimore), he obviously trailed off significantly. But this idea that he’s playing also-rans every week while Brady/Manning, et al, are playing playoff-caliber competition is simply not true. In fact, Schaub played 8 teams that won 10+ games this year, which is a total anomaly, really.
do you just ignore everything else he's posted? like all the criticism he's thrown at Schaub at the end of the post?
putting up huge numbers against bad teams is indicative of a good QB. that's what he's supposed to do. bad QBs don't do it even against bad teams. probably 80% of a teams schedule every year consists of bad teams. so even the bradys and Rogers of the world feasts on them, putting up big numbers. Schaub unfortunately is showing he can't hang with the better QBs.
And your continued lack of understanding basic NFL standards is why your opinion here is mostly dismissed. Those 3 QBs I mentioned? They posted 100+ QBRs in 8 (Brady), 10 (Manning), 9 (Rodgers) games this year. Schaub posted 8 over the controversial 16-game stretch your and your ilk keep jumping up and down and claiming wasn't elite. And yet, other than hurling insults, you've never countered the #s with even a shred of perspective; it's always an excuse that doesn't really hold up (yeah, but...) Here were his numbers over that 16-game stretch: 325/504 (65%); 4,035 yards; 8.0 YPA; 26 TDs; 10 INTs; 98.1 QBR Points per game: 30.1 W/L: 15-1 The Texans don’t throw as much as other teams; Kubiak is a run-first coach. But just to give you an idea of how effective and efficient Schaub was: if we apply Brady’s attempts this past year (637), Schaub’s numbers jump to: 5,099 yards; 33 TDs; 13 INTs. (Brady? 4,827; 34/8, FYI). At that pace, he would have ranked 2nd in yards; 5th in TDs; 7th in QBR; 2nd in points scored; 1st in wins. Now… let me be VERY, VERY, VERY clear: I fully understand and respect that an increased workload might have negatively impacted Schaub’s numbers; perhaps significantly. I’m not pretending those numbers are absolute. I just wanted to offer some perspective to the “TOUCHDOWNS RULZ!!” response almost certainly forthcoming. I don’t know what you would categorize that stretch of football… but if it isn’t elite, then you have a *much* higher standard than me.
I think all he sees is the words "brady, brees and manning" so he assumes it means that the post is saying Schaub is as good as them. Very selective reading or poor comprehension...either way, the act is old.
Generally speaking, I don't believe it's a disqualifier, and it wasn't an issue (for me) over this 16-game stretch. It's a watered-down league and a QB is far more likely to play a mediocre team than they are a good one.. Obviously, as the year wore on, and Schaub began to show signs of being swallowed up by the moment, my opinion of his *specific* capacity to rise to the level of his opponent changed. I'm genuinely concerned about it entering 2013.
why people doesnt say that about Peyton: in his years with the Colts, he played against an expansion team (Texans) Jaguars and Titans. last season played against Kansas City, Oakland and San Diego. and Peyton always choke in the playoffs, unless he plays against Rex Grossman. Peyton wasnt much better than Schaub THIS YEAR. but yes Manning has some qualities than Schaub doesn have, so Im not saying Schaub is better than Manning.
