    So she kept a loaded gun on the second tier of a cabinet with a 6 year old in the house. Awesome.

    She's also lucky to be alive because that home invader was soft hearted. He wrestled the gun off her just to throw it away from her.

    And it could have been what saved her kid's life. Awesome.

    I understand for many people that politics is the end all-be all of life, but come on. :confused:

    The odds say that having that gun it is more likely that it will be used on a family member rather than a home intruder. She and her six year old beat the odds, but irresponsibility with a gun and a kid isn't really something to cheer about.

    I'm glad this lady and her family are alright. I'm sorry that she is so willing to disregard the safety of her own children.

    Politics is my end all of my life? Ok. Yay, she saved her family. Does that make it wrong to comment on how stupid it is to store a LOADED gun with in reach of a SIX year old. I didn't realize that was a political stance. Fill me in more, because I must be missing something brah.

    Irresponsibility with a gun = utilizing the gun to protect your family from intruders? Interesting.

    Regardless, I just thought this was more of a "feel good" story and FYI to those who might live in the area. Hence, its location in The Hangout and not the D&D. But maybe that's just me.

    Looked like you were trying to make a political point. Maybe I was wrong about that... but it sure seemed like it.

    ::EDIT::

    What I should have just said

    Maybe she's taught the kid to respect the gun and her authority. It worked in my house...I always had access to my dad's guns but knew if I ever touched them that I'd better go ahead and shoot myself with one of them. It'd be better than him catching me doing it.

    I know some kids who are straight arrows, who would be as good as you were and never touch the thing. The vast majority of six year olds are balls of curiosity and couldn't possibly comprehend the damage a gun could do. When I was young, when you told me not to do something, I immediately wanted to do that thing to see what all the fuss was about.

    Fair enough. FWIW, my kids will never have access to my guns, so assumptions can't be made either way. I'm going to err on the sid of caution with my kids. Maybe my dad didn't care if I blew off my own foot.

    I think I was about 6 the first time I fired one, so I knew the dangers first-hand. I think a lot of families enforce that with their kids...maybe this lady did the same. In the end, it's good the gun was ready and available or who knows what could've happened.

    She was lucky the dude ran away instead of blowing her brains out. It's good to have a happy ending.

    It's not just your kids, though. Other people have access to your home, even if sporadically and they shouldn't know where your guns are. There's the kid who killed his sister and mother recently just because and apparently after seeing Rob Zombie's remake of some movie. He got the gun from his grandfather's house.

    Because some or even a majority or large majority of people can be responsible doesn't mean we should ignore those that can't be. That's the purpose for a number of our laws.
