I'm well aware the Thunder got that pick from us. But if the Raptors make the playoffs it does NOT in fact screw the Thunder. It just gives them better options going forward on the pick.... What we want is the pick to end high lotto THIS year, best way to screw the Thunder imo.
This is the Raptors franchise we're talking about. Or did you miss that somewhere? Odds of them being in the top 8 for 4 years are astronomical.
You might be right, and I certainly don't overvalue Gay as a player. But big athletic wings who can get their own shot as the clock winds down are not as common as you're suggesting! When Gay went down (!) 2 seasons ago, OJ Mayo was coming off the bench as well - there's a guy who can find his own shot in the halfcourt offence. I'm sure they can find one of these guys given time, and perhaps they're looking into it right now? It's a great move in that they dumped his salary. I don't think they'll drastically slide as a basketball team, but I don't see that it makes them any better right now from a basketball perspective!
For what the grizzlies received for Gay in the end kind of makes me think we missed out. To me I think we could have offered way better players for Gay and not to mention younger with low salaries.
Memphis don't need a Granger type. They just need a slightly better Delfino type. Conley's a playmaker. Randolph's a low post guy. Gasol's a high post guy. Prince is like an older Parsons. They just a need a shooter that can also do a little of something else to complete that lineup.
Yes, we certainly could've made a better offer. A lot of teams could've made a lot of much better offers. But Morey would never offer much of substance for Rudy Gay. I remember there was once a trade rumor where the Rockets trade Battier and like a 1st round pick for Gay. And this was back when Gay was actually good. Morey thinks very little of that contract.
Memphis is win-now. I doubt they'd be interested in most of our prospects. It'd probably take Chandler to make that deal which no way in hell I'd do.
Memphis traded a bad contract for another. Given Prince's age, his decline, and the puzzling contract extension he got. He's on course to be a truly untradeable contract in the next season or two.
Yeah but Memphis wants to win now, they wouldn't mind over paying veterans if it means going further into the playoff.
Raptors have an awesome wing rotation now. Gay/Fields + Derozan/Ross. They are plenty thin on Bigs though. Prince is still a decent 2 way player and will give Memphis solid vet leadership and playoff experience. How does Ed Davis fit in? They already got Arthur at the 4 and he is doing pretty well. Davis will most likely have to move to the 5. What does this do for Detroit?
that's why i was telling myself, i could c them packaging Bargnani + either Ross/DeRozan for a low post player (Gasol ? ^^)., because /W Gay/DeRozan/Ross/Fields, there will not be enought minutes for everyone
No, judging by this trade he'd land at least a good prospect and a vet. And a nice trade exception. Something like Parsons+Delfino maybe?
