As someone observed on twitter, this is the Gay Tay Daye José Trade. Awesome, aye? I'd say!

It was time for Detroit to move on. Prince is almost 33 and far from the defender he used to be. They got out from under his contract and got a good PG for at least the second half of the season.

    The Pistons won this trade.

How can that be scary? Just box up the middle and they are done.

Or it could make the trade worse if Toronto bombs in what is considered to be a much better draft next year.

What are you smoking? Everybody at this point already knows what Gay brings to the table-he's a decent player making the max. Gay isn't some unused rookie, he's what he is at this point. The only thing that can happen is Gay can lay an egg in the playoffs, or he can blow up which would make him untradable. Both those things are highly unlikely, Gay's stats with the current grizz team has been consistent.

For those of you who are too lazy to look it up, the trade is:

Memphis: Prince, Daye, Ed Davis, 2nd round pick
    Pistons: Calderon
    Raptors: Gay

^This is a slam dunk deal for Memphis, a great deal for the Pistons and a horrible trade for the Raps. Memphis gets rid of dead weight $$$, acquires a veteran who fits the system more (Prince), AND acquires two awesome guys with sweet potential, Davis and Daye. Pistons get a stop gap pg while clearing Prince's salary off the books, but IMHO Daye is a really good player they let go. Toronto....LOL what is BC doing in Canada? Davis should have been their building block, Bargnani is too soft and a Davis-Valanciunas pairing would have been pretty good in a few years. Terrible trade for them IMHO, when you get a cap killing 20M player who only gives you 18 pts on horrible effiency you should be receiving assets, not giving them away.

PS. LOL @ the poster who said the Raps now have the better lineup than the Rox have in years. Yeah, in NBA2k maybe. Get back to me when they actually have a higher record than the Rox....while playing in the East

    Why???

If they make the playoffs they keep their pick...

If they finish late lottery it's better for screwing the pick.

I think you're overrating what Gay brought to the table for the Grizz. For one thing, the NBA is filled with perimeter threats. They can use Davis/Daye/etc. to trade for that guy if needed, except he won't cost max dollars every year. More importantly, it's not like Memphis started losing games when Gay went down, I think you ask anybody they'll say the Grizz were more effective when Shane Battier replaced Gay, and Battier wasn't exactly a volume shooter either. And Prince/Daye are pretty similar to Battier at this point, they're good glue guys who thrive in a half court setting. Great trade for the Grizz IMHO.

Lowry should be happy getting back together with Gay. Haddadi's always been an interesting prospect for me. I thought he was unappreciated and underutilized in Memphis. I wanted him over Thabeet.

OKC owns that pick, so if the Raptors are good, makes the move even better.

    Yep, sounds like he is.

What I like is how everyone believed Tayshaun Prince was going to retire a Piston.

    What loyalty.

The pick rolls over to next year if Toronto makes the playoffs and it will have less protection near the top of the draft.

So? If this makes the Raptors 8 seeds for the next 4 years I'm super happy.

This trade helps everyone in the west because it weakens OKCs pick

Lowry and gay have not only played together but we all know how swell Lowry plays when his gm trades the competing pg off the team

lol exactly. He seems to shrink when he has competition at his position (AB, Dragic, Calderon). Now he's the undisputed starter and has his friend in Gay to play with. I bet he's ecstatic.
