Memphis made out nicely... Thier already stout D gets better and they gain flexiblity and get furthur under the cap... I understand why toronto did this... they have a crap tax system, and in a different country... no one wants to go there and they cant attract free agents so they have to resort to deals like this... Detroit may have a few, yet underperforming pgs already but they gain flexibility and idk what else... I hope the trades and rumors start pouring out because i love it and cant wait... Get 'er done morey!
Yeah, average fans will probably think grizz just got screwed. Traded a bad ass all-star who throws down for some PF i'v barley knew existed. In reality, grizz made a great trade, a win trade. Raptors made a loose trade.
Getting rid of Gay's contract was huge for Memphis. Everything else is a bonus. I can't believe Toronto is taking on Gay. Collangelo must've took what "what" said literally. If Kyle struggles or gets hurt it's going to be super ugly watching those guys try to find good shots.
Can't say this was the best trade for the Raptors at first glance, but who knows? Maybe Rudy Gay thrives being the clear cut go-to option. Ya never know. Either way though...he ain't gonna be on Durant's level
Fantastic trade for Memphis. Prince is a good 3 pt shooter, doesn't need the ball to be effective, and plays great defense. If only Grizzlies didn't do that earlier trade though they would be even better
Solid trade for both. But it depends on Ed Davis' future. So... The Raptors will be pretty interesting now. Lowry/Ross (DeRozan)/Gay/Bargnani/Valanciunas (Amir Johnson). That's nice. They should try to turn DeRozan into a Millsap, Jefferson or Smith.
Does this help Toronto win in the short term? At least this season? I really don't care about Toronto, but if acquiring Rudy Gay means they can win a few more games, that makes the pick we traded away worth a lot less.
Toronto has no floor spacing now though. Derozan and Gay are both putrid 3 pt shooters. They have 3 guys that need the ball in their hands to be effective.
I think it depends on Valanciunas/Bargnani health. If they get healthy, I could see them go .500+ in the rest of their games. And if Boston really slides... who knows what can happen. 35 wins might be enough to get into the playoffs this year.
Yep, they should really start Ross for spacing and use DeRozan as a super sub. Gay still has to be respected, especially from midrange. Lowry/Ross/Gay/Bargnani lineup would have solid spacing.
Meh. Ed Davis will be a free agent soon and they have to pay Prince for the next few seasons. They didn't really get any of the picks or assets they wanted. If Davis blossoms they will have to pay him shortly. I suppose the Rockets win, the Raptors draft pick is not as good as it was 24 hours ago and the Harden deal looks even better.
So, I wonder if this means Memphis is also looking to move Zach Randolph. If Ed Davis is the center piece of this trade, he's gotta be projected to be something more than a 15-20 mpg back-up, no?
Still need to account for Philly. They are ahead of Toronto and right behind Boston. In fact, with the way Holiday has been playing and the return of Bynum after the all-star break, I could see them winning a lot more games. I highly doubt Toronto will overtake Philly. On the other hand Toronto currently has the 7th worse record in the league. If Rudy Gay does help them go around .500 from now they could end up around the 10-14 range.
