I think Wall has good skills, but he has a clown loser mentality, ala Dwight Howard... what I mean is he cares most about showing out and acting cool. You could see this even back in his college days when he did his stupid ass flexing dance before and during every game. It's a big cry of 'LOOK AT ME! LOOK AT ME!' A point guard needs to be a leader, not a freaking clown. Could you ever see CP3/Rose pulling that kind of crap?

But Wall is a better athlete (mainly in terms of jumping and finishing at the rim) and ball handler

I just want to point out I hate posters like this.

On topic: Wall could have probably benefited from playing in college a year longer. But it is what it is. I still think he'll end up being a solid player. But the Wizards are just not known for getting the most out of their lottery pick.

I think a change of scenery would do Wall A lot of good.

It wont happen though. At least not for a while.

Eh, to an extent. At least that clowning in Cleveland involved his teammates (the fake group photos before games). He cut out all that stuff in Miami though.

Just look up his stats for 11 season, and wow that 3 point shot was bad. Was about to defend the guy, and still will.

Came off an Injury, and learning. Gotta wait till year 4 for this guy. I would make a judgement on year 3, but that injury.

I remember reading an article saying he was the next rose.

Wall is not supposed to be a solid player. He's supposed to be a superstar franchise player. Anything less than that would be a huge disappointment.

Thread idea stolen from one of my posts in the Lin thread? Nice copy and paste job on the data

But there wasn't a need to create a John Wall is a joke thread. It was just for comparison purposes on how Lin has a tougher job to prove himself compared to most NBA players, and his flaws over-criticized.

But this thread also shows how bad the double-standards here.

    - Wall was injured and only back 10 games (Lin Joke thread appeared 4 games into the season, I believe, and likewise coming back from injury)

    - Wall is just playing to his strength and not shooting 3-pointers (vs Lin - you have to take that shot, you can't shoot 3 you suck forgetting his strength is putting the ball on the floor and creating)

    - Wall is only in his third season and has plenty of time to improve (Lin doesn't get this benefit of the doubt, plus Lin has played less NBA minutes in his career vs Wall's first season)

    - Wall would've benefited from another year at college (vs Lin rarely played against top teams in college nor did he face many NBA calibre athletes, so he has an adjustment period, especially playing combo-guard in college)

I don't understand how a player, especially one who isn't freakishly big, can play basketball all their lives and still not have a reliable jump shot.

Is it because NBA players are often so dominant in high school and college that they rarely settle for jumpers and always drive to the hoop?

Does this mean that for every lottery bust, there must exist a "Player A is a joke" thread in NBA dish or there would be implied bias against Lin or something?

Ummm.. do you know Walls stats this year?

10 games: He averages 25 minutes... In 25 minutes he averages 15 points... 6.6 assits... while shooting 45% from the field... Playing to only his strengths and leading his teams to 6-4 record after they only won 5 before he came back...

I never saw your response in the other thread, so since you have quoted it for me here I'll answer you.

Not to get too far off-topic(if that is even possible in a joke thread) but....

It is reallly very very simple. The reason why I dont criticize John Wall or any other bad shooting NBA player is because THEY.DONT.PLAY.FOR.THE.ROCKETS.

It is really *that* simple. I barely have time or inclination to discuss the Rockets with people so I certainly will not be wasting my time looking up stats to criticize a non-Rocket. I'm offended that you would even presume to accuse me of being unfair for racial reasons.

FACT: Jeremy Lin has NOT been a good shooter this year while playing for the Rockets

FACT: One of the things you should be at least decent at as a professional NBA player is shooting the ball into the basket.

I have already said previously that I fully expect him to improve eventually and that I am willing to be patient as this season was a throw-away before it ever started for me so the young guys have time to work on developing their game and I understand that.

You've been around here long enough to know what the deal is....why should I have to spend so many words tryin to clarify a position that was already fairly logical in the first place....You should already know that when a player doesnt perform the most basic tenant of their job, they are going to be criticized by the fans. Mo wouldn't rebound, Scola and Patpat didn't rebound enough, Rafer couldn't shoot, Francis dribbled too much, Cato slacked off most of the time, Chuck was a horrible FT shooter, Battier could only shoot corner threes, etc, etc....they ALL were roundly criticized by the fans for their shortcomings.

    Lin is no different.

You also forgot to mention Harden's inability to guard anybody

    True, I did.

I would revise that to say "Harden's propensity to act like a matador if he gets beat by the first step" since I have seen him play D, but if you can get the first step on him he gives up and lets you go. A good defender would fight to get back and catch up.

That is one of the things I criticize when talking to friends about the team.

The entire team's D needs help.
