It also looks like Wall knew his limits thru his first 2 seasons... while Kidd was just jacking em up with a 496 shots attempted difference. Wow-zahs!
Derrick Rose sucked at shooting 3's in his first two season and then turned it around. John Wall has time to improve since it's only his 3rd season and he just came off an injury.
I know this thread is a joke, but in general the "[Player] is a joke" types of threads are ridiculous as Scalabrine has reinforced just how good even so-called scrubs in the NBA are compared to the rest of us non-NBA players. I do have serious questions about Wall's ability to translate his ridiculous athletic ability into the NBA game though. He just seems to think speeding past his defender is the best strategy at all times and doesn't seem to get that slowing down or hesitating can be more effective at getting an open shot or setting up a teammate.
I guess the point of this thread is Lin, not Wall. Lin's one glaring weakness is his shooting. And there are plenty of "great" PGs, including Wall, who have the same weakness. Yet all these guys are given a pass. Only Lin was excessively criticized for his shooting woe. I don't really worry about Lin's shooting. This is one skill that can dramatically improve.
Who cares about John Wall, the Washington Wizard? As a Rockets fan I sure as he'll don't. He can be a joke, or otherwise, but he's not a Rocket so I don't care. Nice try, though. I guess.
Is John wall a Houston rocket? No. So there is no reason for us to criticize him. Is Lin a Houston rocket? Yes. Therefore we criticize him cause he plays for the rockets.
I was pretty skeptical about this guy back in 2010 because so much of his game was underdeveloped. He had clear, exceptional athletic ability, and that might be enough if he were a 6'10" PF like Anthony Davis. The thing is, point guard is a position which demands a very high skill level. Moreso than any other position. A big man can rely on raw physical tools, even a SF can, but the shorter you get the more skilled you need to be. John Wall came into the league as a PG without a jump shot, and with clear flaws in his defense and decisionmaking skills. With his athleticism and ballhandling abilities he could certainly have developed into a Derrick Rose type player, but it was very clear he had quite a bit of work to do in order to get there, and there was no guarantee it would happen. Call me crazy, but I want a little more certainty from a #1 overall pick point guard.
Rajon Rondo I'm in the camp that things John Wall isn't very good, but at least he's trending upward. He has realized he can't shoot, and is driving to the basket more.
He puts up decent stats. He just doesn't seem like a winner. Needs to take a page out of Kyrie Irving's book. dude is amazing.
Fair enough, but the thread clearly exists because people were asking in the "Jeremy Lin is a joke!!!" thread why this particular thread did not exist, otherwise LOH, racist, blah, blah. If the Jeremy Lin thread did not exist in the GARM this thread would not exist, hence my response. Next I suppose we will see a thread in the GARM entitled "Are we going to ignore the MONSTER YEAR Jeremy Lin is having???". You might as well start then tell people "It's in the GARM".
Trade Lin for John Wall to do what? Brick open 3s from Harden's kick outs? It's Harden that has run the offense for the majority of the season up to now. What's good for the goose is good for the gander: Wall will be building the Great Wall of China if played in the crap system that is Hardenball. But he will still not be joke: he will simply being misused.
