and yet houston is the most ethically diverse city in the country... looks can be deceiving. won't disagree that everything is just more spread out here, especially when compared to cities like seattle and SF. but there are just as many asians (if not more) in Houston as either of those cities.
Schools also are judged on their student attendance rates, classes sizes (at the elementary level), retention rates (at the elementary and middle school level), and on numerous college-ready indicators at the high school level. As in the past, the weighted formula gives extra credit to schools that serve large concentrations of low-income students to adjust for the effects of poverty. See more on the methodology below. It graded on a curve. Otherwise Clements is probably on top. Most of the school is Asian.
Yup...many dont realize how diverse Houston is, for better or worse. I remember reading something along the lines that 1 out of every 4 Houston residents was born outside of the US. That's pretty impressive.
Here's a vid Discovery Channel did on Houston that was in an earlier thread: <iframe width="560" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/dChjD11U-dk" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
Well ethnically diverse can be misleading. If by diverse you mean a bunch of different groups living lives in separate regions of the city...then I guess, yes, it is diverse. Maybe I prefer more "quaint"-ness, but I'd prefer to be in a place that was diversity, yes, within proximity to other communities and cultures (and I don't mean driving proximity). It's really just a different mentality. I certainly understand the draws to having more space to yourself, but that also comes at the detriment of non-manufactured, vibrant atmospheres. One thing Houston will always have over most cities (due in part to its diversity) is its food culture. Sure Houston might be the fattest city in the nation, but, damnit, that just means they've got the best food. And that's what truly matters.
Check out this place in Sugar Land (it's two words, people!): http://search.har.com/engine/3150-Windmill-St-Sugar-Land-TX-77479_HAR43311203.htm Not the prettiest thing in the world, but it's only $175,000. And it's lot is over 30,000 square feet! You could put a basketball court back there. Or build seperate living quarters/man cave. Or both! I'm not familiar with that area, but it's zoned to Clements so it has to be pretty good. If I was looking to buy, this would be what interests me.
