Does anyone know anything about the CIMA accreditation? Chartered Institute of Management Accountants. The company I got a job with said I can get this instead of a CPA. I am not familiar with this at all and I was wondering how difficult would it be to get this title while working full time and how many extra accounting courses does it require? I know the CPA you need about 30 hours of accounting and need to have some public accounting experirence.
It's 150 hours to sit for the CPA. 30 of those hours need to be accounting hours while 3 of those 30 have to be geared towards an ethics class. 20 of the 150 have to be business courses.
One thing to ask yourself is that regardless of whichever one may seem easier, you want to get the one that is going to be the most widely regarded credit in the industry. The CPA is something that every company will generally recognize as an accomplishment. You may not be at your current job forever. You are likely going to have opportunities to move on to another company at some point in your career, whether it is a better career choice or not. So it is best to have something that looks the best to the highest amount of potential employers.
I'm a CPA and work in tax and am also involved in the hiring process here at work and am not familiar with a CIMA and have never seen a resume with it on there. I'd just go for the CPA.
