Here is a video of that training session LBJ had with the dream. Im not certain it was posted in the old thread as i skimmed through it, but dream posted it recently, so i decided to post it here again.

Finally realized one thing...when the Dream does it, it's the dream shake.. when Lebron does it..it looks like crab dribble...seriously..look at 2:40ish for about 20 seconds

I hate to say it. But of all the guys who trained with the dream none look nearly as smooth as him except for kobe.

Post moves is literally about drilling one or two things with great detail a million times, it's not just "learned" like that. i bet outta all the players that took Hakeem's lessons, only gym rats like Kobe actually went back and continuously drilled those things he learned from Hakeem.

Isn't funny how arguably the most physically talented player in the world looks like a robot while a 50 year old dream looks as if he's gliding inches off the ground.

    Great find.

I swear, if it were half-court, Hakeem would still be dominating.

You can see how much thought Hakeem put into each of his moves, which is reflected in the little details in his positioning, footwork, power dribbles, pass-throughs, etc. An awesome basketball player.

Still can't believe Lebron James was here in Houston. It's good to see Hakeem taught Lebron his moves and I think it helped him a lot.

Lebron was one of the ones that was most obvious about using the dreams moves, especially when it came to the playoffs. When u watch the other guys who trained with the dream, none of them really look like they implemented much at all.

Because Kobe always posted up in games. He is really good at it. He went to Hakeem to improve even more, but he was already smooth when backing somebody down and making a move.

dream looks like he could school lebron in a half court game today.

Interesting how lebron is not that much shorter than dream. Dream should go on dancing with the stars he looks so fluid. I know it was probably lebrons first session but I get the feeling all these guys go and do this workout and then realize within a few minutes 'aww sh**it aint gonna happen' because you can just tell lebron was starting to look more dejected as time went on.

    btw who taught dream this?

The moves he was learning aren't that difficult to do.

It just takes repetition to be able to do them fluidly and transition seamlessly from one move to another.

It is more about "feel". You read and react to what the defender does. That is what takes skill.

And I'm sure nobody taught Hakeem most of his moves. I did every single one of the moves he showed in the video when I played basketball. I didn't learn them from anybody. I just "made them up" as I practiced in my yard.

That spin move where you take a wide step back and shoot off of one foot near the baseline was a move I'd do all the time. It was "my move". Then when I was older, I saw footage of Hakeem and realized he was doing that move way before I was. Which is why he's my favorite player ever.

Thanks heaps for the post/find, I've been looking for the LBJ + Hakeem training sessions for ages. I've seen the Dwight + Hakeem training sessions, and Dwight is a bit of a clown. LBJ looks good, and he's damn serious when he's working on his game, I like that.

I idolized Hakeem growing up and used to play and rewind his moves until I got them. Then I used to write each move down and just practice them over and over. By the end of it, I had a list of 50 moves... A lot of Hakeem's moves are just a combination of 2 or 3 fundamental moves that are put together based on reading the defense. In my case, sometimes I would predetermine the beginning of the move, then adapt depending what the defender does. Then the next time I would do the same beginning, making the defender think I would do the same move, then change it up and spin the other way, or do an up and under at the end.

The only way you can balance and coordinate yourself, at speed, and read the defense is to just do repetition upon repetition until each move and extensions to each move feel like second nature.

Hakeem's moves aren't for everyone, I was a 6'7 power forward who was quicker and more agile than other taller guys at my position so I had to play a style that caters to my strengths.
