Google Now Boasts World's No. 2 and No. 3 Social Networks

"A new report released Monday revealed that Google+, less than a year and a half after its public debut, is now the No. 2 social network in the world with 343 million active users. Even better for Google, YouTube, which had not previously been tracked as a social network until recently, is now the No. 3 social network in the world with about 300 million active users. Google Plus and YouTube are being used by 25 percent and 21 percent of the global Internet populace, respectively."

It must be true. I read it on The Internet.

yeah I don't know anybody that actually uses google plus, they just make you sign up for it with gmail and youtube makes you sign in with your gmail account. I don't put much stock in those numbers.

I use Google+ and like it a lot. Haven't signed on Facebook (which has turned into trash IMO) in over 2 years and probably never will again. I viewed my son's FB page a couple of months ago and the clutter reminded of how I thought MySpace was trash compared to FB 4 years ago.

Without a doubt the G+ numbers are misleading, but that doesn't matter. To each his own.

I have Google+ too and nobody ever posts anything on it. People don't even like using Facebook and only do it because all their friends are on there already. I am sure if there was an option to "migrate" friends to google+ easily tons of people would switch, but obviously facebook is having no part of that.

It's pretty much still only tech bloggers. Content, APIs, and apps aren't outstanding, and until Google builds better integration with search, YouTube, Android, Music, and Play...it's going to remain underutilized as a typical social network.

If they were to start mirroring posts from Facebook/Twitter, then potentially people could migrate, as TheRealist suggested.

One other thing: comparing Facebook of today to MySpace of yesteryear is not exactly fair. I'm not Facebook fanboy, but MySpace was incredibly scattered nd flooded with crap. Facebook, as busy as it can be, is still far-less cluttered and more streamlined than Myspace ever was.

Google+'s best route might be to work on acquiring/partnering with Twitter or Pinterest.

Interesting. You guys seriously have no clue about Google+. Besides Hangouts (which are awesome), it isn't about small-talk with people you know. It's more along the lines of conversing and following people who have similar interests, beliefs and hobbies. FB is a social network. Google+ is a news/subject matter/interest network. My stream and circles are very lively. The notion it's a "ghost town" (as one writer said) is ridiculous. Don't try to get your family members on it. Use FB for that. Use G+ to interact with new people. I have a couple of family members on it, but beyond posting photos, we don't use it to communicate.

It's hard to explain this to people that don't use G+, but it doesn't overlap with FB IMO. FB will probably always be larger, but who cares? For me as a user, it isn't about competition between the two. One suites me fairly well, the other is a pile of worthless, cluttered garbage. For others, FB is an essential part of their daily lives. Good for them.

If you really believe G+ is only tech bloggers, etc, then smh. For sure it started out that way but it's way beyond that now.

I launched Back-of-the-head book last month for intraverts. You don't need to be connected to anyone, and nobody will know what you look like. There are no girls. But you have a nice place to get away if you need to.

Its only because google has given most people the option of converting their gmail account into a Google + account...no one really posts on it, mine is just sitting there...

I do think it is mostly all the pundits who WANT GooglePlus to be a big player are the ones who project its influence higher than it actually is.

I've gotten some secondary gmail addresses, and I can automatically get G+ and Youtube accounts from it. They're using that to mean its growing in size. They NEED to so some users can accidentally just stay in place.

I think the social tools are important. I do wish Facebook had G+'s functionality. But for the most part, its the same annoying people who migrate from one network to the next. So its not like one will be more "intelligent" than the other.

(And they're all gonna use your personal info one way or the other. Why the F**K would I want to put my REAL NAME for my Youtube acount? Thats a lame trick to get Youtube to be like "social" media)

I'm a G+ user as well. Is it the next Friendster, MySpace, Facebook? I actually hope it is not. I like the features in G+ better, and it certainly seems less invasive. Facebook is horrible man. I don't care to read that someone likes Walmart and dogs dressed as Jesus. That's not to say that in the Explore feed in G+ there aren't idiots too. There are plenty.

I just like that I can share exactly what I want, with exactly who I want. Google Events with Party Mode is awesome. Autouploading (if you enable it) all your photos to the cloud. If you are in Party Mode, anyone who has it on and is at/invited to your event taking photos are automatically uploaded to that event. No more asking, "hey you, upload your pics from so-and-so event."

The things we can do with some of the things going on here are really awesome. Evnetually you can have 3d, digital versions of events. A whole stadium of people taking photos/video/using hangout, etc. It can't be long before software can merge that junk together for online consumption.

    Anyway...
