He just needs to work on explosion drills and do pressure simulations in practice. And build some arm muscles to make a stronger pass. Hell, he just needs to take PEDs.
That's sort of the problem in a league driven by QB play. Almost every game won this postseason had outstanding QB play. Just being there is likely going to lead to a loss in the playoffs. That's certainly true. But sitting here and b****ing or discussing the team at all is pointless in general. It's not like the GM is making decisions based on Clutchfans recommendations. Why discuss the Texans at all?
You're missing my point. There arent any real options we could discuss at QB. Are there any free agents that we could realistically trade for? Are there and QBs we could realistically sign? Are there any QBs that we could draft that could come in and compete against Schaub? With Schaubs contract, the answer is no...at least, not anyone that is comparable. Fact of the matter is that we are stuck with that contract for at least one more year. No matter what we do, what we say, what we want...Schaub is the QB. Now, b****ing over Barwin, over Cody, over James, over Walter, over Newton...that's fine, because we could actually have a conversation about how to improve it, who to draft, who to sign, etc... In other words, we can discuss how to realistically upgrade those spots. QB...it is what it is. We can cry allllll we want...barring injury, there are zero other options outside of Schaub. Is it really reasonable to sit here until the end of next season discussing about how Schaub doesnt have good lateral quickness? Kind of seems pointless.
what defense doesnt work better with a lead?? and what about blaming the defense for letting a TD in the first drive on the 3rd qtr, when the offense scored 10 points in less than 2 mins, to be down only by 4 points? and im not saying it wasnt schaub fault, he also did some mistakes, but is not ALL schaub fault. O-line didnt protect, if you watched the NE-BAL game, Wilfork was neutralized, what happened in the previous game, Wilfork, completely dominated the texans O-line.
it doesnt really work like that. arm strength is mostly genetics, the tendons can determine how hard/fast you can throw. you can either throw a 90mph fastball or you never will.. i know leg muscle can add some zip, but only slightly. theres are many exercises/stretches to increase velocity but only temporarily. i would even go as far to say that arm muscle would decrease ball speed.
Schaub is a coward in big games & not capable of leading a team to a championship. The guy has a minimal amount of mental toughness & we've gone as far as we can go with him (& possibly Kubiak). 13-5 is a good yet forgettable season. With Schaub & Kubiak leading the team the season will most likely end in moral victories. IMO.
There are always QBs available via free agency or the draft. Are they any good? Maybe, maybe not - isn't that something that could be discussed? After all, this thread is titled "Schaub" so it seems like it would be dedicated to the QB. Potential free agents include Alex Smith (arguably a more mobile Schaub), Vick, Flacco, etc. Who knows what QBs are available via trade. And in the draft, if you have good talent evaluation, maybe it's possible to take a flier on finding the next Wilson or Kaepernick, both of who were bypassed by every team in the league at least once. That doesn't mean any of those are good options - but Schaub is around the 15-18th best QB in the league. The idea that there is no way to even discuss the possibility of improving at QB seems silly.
It is silly because Kubiak is never going to consider it so there is really no point to discuss it. And even with Schaub only being 15th-18th, I don't see a realistic replacement who is higher than that. The only person I would take a chance on is Vick, as much as I hate him. If the throws Schaub makes really are considered easy, even Vick should be able to make them. He could be a huge bust, but I think he is really the only viable replacement
Vick would be interesting at least, but there is no way he gets a look. 1) He is so outside of Bob's mold for character that it's a non-starter 2) Even if Bob bought into the rehabbed image of Vick, the only reason he will allegedly be available is because he doesn't want to take a big pay cut and so will likely not be back in Philly. He's not coming here on a small deal and he's not coming here to compete with Schaub.
These kind of absolutist statements about not being capable of winning a championship are so silly. Morey nailed it on the radio the other day. Saying that about any player is the most uncontroversial thing you can ever say because statistically you are almost assuredly right no matter what individual you name. The vast majority of players in all sports in a given generation will not lead their team to a championship. It's the nature of the beast.
No no no you have to stay mad 24/7, have no empathy (higher level brain thing wouldn't expect people to have it) and not have any employment whatsoever so you can monitor clutchfans all day and night waiting for any post that isn't 100 percent negative on Schaub so you can place your own life's frustrations and failures onto him and keep posting and posting and posting and posting and posting and not looking for work and posting posting posting posting like a pre-teen to teenage girl posting posting ever second posting posting submit reply posting about Schaub. Life is only about Schaub SCHAUB SCAUB SAUBB
We've discussed everything from firing Wade or the special teams coach to going after Peyton Manning to going after Vince Young to Mcnair needing to sell the team over the years. None of these things are going to happen - but that doesn't mean you can't discuss the merits of them. Again, this is a fan message board - nothing we suggest or complain about has any effect on the team. The idea is to first talk about what you'd like to see. Then if there's a way to make it happen (salary cap, etc) and what the impacts would be. These threads are basically fantasy GMing.
Rankings are iffy because they change so much based on what's hot and not. Schaub isn't hot right now so i won't argue that his current ranking but he's capable (or at least has been) of playing at a top 10ish type player. It is kind of silly discussing a replacement next year due to the financial ramifications
its hilarious how people say, "why are we discussing this because we already overpaid him", because its usually from people who defend him.
Well, when Seattle signed Matt Flynn to a 3 year $20MM deal, they still went out and started a 3rd round rookie QB, that looks to be the QB of the future. That was probably the guttiest coaching call I've seen in recent seasons from Pete Carroll but that is what is good organization do. You don't through good money after bad, you make the right decision at the time of decision. Now, the right move, if a good QB can not be had/drafted might still be start Schaub, but to default to him without exploring any options is not what you do.
This Flynn/Wilson decision is constantly pointed out. It looks great in hindsight At the time, they wanted Flynn to start SO badly. They were going to put him out there no matter what after throwing the money at him. All he had to do was show that he was at least as good as David Carr/Alex Smith at their worst. The problem was, he couldn't. Flynn was THAT bad in the preseason when going against 1st team D's. It was gutsy in a sense to bench him, but he was so bad that they really had no choice. It worked out for them, but they lucked into the decision. They weren't as willing to bench the guy they threw money at as people like to think.
