Definitely improved. Defense lacks last year's intensity but overall more polished performance. Still has some room for growth too.

    Ridiculous second round pick.

    It's just you.

Parsons has to make up for our sucknuts power forwards, often being shifted from the 4 to the 3. His +/- will suffer as a result.

    Parsons sure likes hugging Lin!
Has anyone else picked up on this?

Didn't Parsons switch onto DWill in the 2nd quarter? 20 in the 1st, 0 in the 2nd. I think his D is nearly as good this year. I think we just take it for granted at this point.

Morey should and probably will trade him. At his current contract he's a bargain but he won't be worth it once he's off his rookie scale. Some idiot GM will give up a lot for him just to offer him a huge contract.
He's an ok player but there are tons of guys like him in every draft you can get for cents on the dollars vs. veterans.

If Landry Fields can land a $18mill/3 years contract...I'm sure Parsons will be able to do the same when his time comes, assuming he plays at this level or better.

Parsons: I feel like having Taiwanese sausage...

Lin: The lord is my shepherd, the lord is my shepherd...

I think this year he is focusing more on his offense, and his offense has definitely made a small step forward. His defense yes has taken a small step backward, but I'm still pleased with his overall progress because I feel the defense can return once he gets more adapted to playing such heavy minutes.

Good for Parsons and Fields. But Fields definitely not worth that contract. He owes a big cut of that to Linsanity.

You need to pay closer attention to his game if you think he is just an ok player.

Parsons is a guy who can impact the game in different ways. When he is on it doesn't take many shots to hit 20. If his shot is off he has good rebounding totals, and gets steals. He can pass the ball, drive, knock down the 3 and play solid d. Sure his d isn't as great as last year but last year he had a lot less touches on offense so it is expected. He paces himself more this year and with such a long season (1st 82 game season of his career) it could be expected. Plus he is playing out of position more than last season. His numbers are good, excellent for his pay. He is a great glue guy who works very hard on his game and I seriously doubt this is the beat parsons we will see in his career. I been a gator/rocket fan since watching ball and every year I have seen him play he has improved in some way. He is my fav player hands down

He has stepped down because Carlos has out-swagged him

He was a good finisher when his man had to close out hard on him. Decent defense and rebounding. But that's all. His offensive skills are horrid.

His 3p% is up from 33% to 36%. His FT% has gone from 50% (vulnerable to hacking) to 75% (solid). He put in some really dominant offensive performances early on, scoring 20+ points over a few games. Anecdotally, he's really improved on his shooting and dribble-drive game. It takes him from doing the bare basics offensively to a serious contributor.

As far as defense, I guess I'm guilty of not paying that much attention to him. I don't think he can unlearn his man defense skills so maybe it is a lack of energy or the fact that we don't have as good defenders in the backcourt (Lowry/Lee/Parsons was a pretty solid defensive lineup). Even if he has regressed, I'm not really too worried about it. Remember we signed Trevor Ariza to the MLE. We're paying Chandler Parsons $800k. Good stuff.

    Not that I am biased.

Do you even watch the games?
He is in his second year scoring 14 ppg and shooting 45% from the field.
    That's not horrid.

Please provide a link that supports the claim that Chandler Parsons has the worst plus-minus on the Rockets this season. I very much doubt that this is true. I agree that some of the Parsons worship is silly, and that his "upside" is probably limited, but he is a good ballplayer and provides ridiculous bang-for-your-buck at his price for the next several years. And, again, I'm not sure where you're getting your plus-minus data.

Do I think Parsons is overrated on this board? Perhaps slightly. I do think we overvalue his tradeability and his potential. But overall I don't see anyone calling him a future star.

But in some ways, I think fans also UNDERESTIMATE Parsons. There's a reason why he plays the 2nd most minutes on the team behind Harden. He's so versatile on both sides of the ball, playing the stretch 4 and the 3 while capable of guarding several positions. No, he's not elite in any of his skills, but versatility in of itself is valuable. I think if the Rockets shore up their wing players, allowing Parsons to drop his minutes to the 30-33mpg range, we'll likely see better play on a per-minute basis. Right now, he's overworked and gassed.

He's actually good at every aspect of the game. He's the definition of a well-rounded player. With that said I'm not sure he's exceptional at anything yet either. Regardless he is a very good player right now with the potential to be exceptional.

His production, defense, combined with his age makes him one of the SFs in the league to keep an eye on. I think he'll end up with a very big contract next time around.

He was ranked #152 by ESPN over the summer, which would make him a marginal starter. What do you think his rank will be next summer? I think definitely below 100, which would make him a solid NBA quality starter.

And since it's his sophmore year, I don't think he's done improving. What do you think his highest rank will be? 50 or less?

So he's was an "average" player last year. He'll be an "average" starter this year. And perhaps someday an "average" all-star? :)

I think there may be a time when "average" no longer applies.
