It's called Papa Mio's. So far just had one thing, the gnocci with tomato basil, but for $5  that's a hell of a deal. The best part, it tastes very good and authentic. Next week will try lasagna/manicotti/canelloni (only $7!) and the basil pesto sauce and pizza ($8 for 16 inch). Even if those suck the fact they have an acceptable tomato basil sauce is a huge achievement in Houston. So, here are updated Houston Italian rankings.

    1. Capri Pasta (slightly richer sauce and special dishes like frutti di mare)
    2. Papa Mio (Good and cheap)
    3. Mandola's Deli (slightly sweeter sauce but still good and cheap)

That's hardly in Houston. I would never go that far outside of town for a place like that

Maybe it's where the old Mia Bella Trattoria used to be in the neighborhood?

This seems like a good place to ask... recommendations for Italian eateries in Austin, anyone?

No kidding. Out of all the good restaurants in Austin, we're severely lacking in Italian food. Carmelo's is probably as good as it gets. There's one in N. Austin that isn't bad...Primo Pizza and Pasta at the corner of McNeil and Parmer. I go for their lunch deals on occasion.

The best dish they have is called spaghetti scoglio. It's a seafood pasta with red sauce. There's also another one without the red sauce called papardelle mare e monti. Those are the two I think are the best. Lasagna and penne pesto and gnocchi tomato basil and penne tomato basil are also very good as well.

If you want scoglio or mare e monti call the day before to make sure they buy the seafood for it it's not a daily special, same with pesto sauce.
