The Rockets, ladies and gentlemen. Rewarding BS (i.e. Royce) and punishing good behavior (Douglas). What an attractive venue for all free agents! I was super down on Douglas at the beginning of the season. I still think he's not that great, but the absolute lack of loyalty when he finally starts to play well is disgusting. We played this guy over JLin in crunchtime earlier in the season when he SUCKED-- what's the dealio now? The coaching staff has no idea what they're doing and I'm increasing disturbed as the losses rack up.
The only bright thing about Douglas is that he's making his millions...but LOL...getting benched by unknown players is becoming a habit for him...first Lin then now Beverley.
Agreed that we are overworking Harden. Just change up the rotation, McHale. What do you have to lose? (Other than more games)
so TD got quite a bit of PT yesterday against the hornets, yet patrick beverly only got garbage time minutes... so whats happening to our rotation??!!
McHale spoke about this in his post game news conference. McHale said that when we first got Beverley he wanted to take a look at him and see what he could do, so Beverley got some minutes. He said he was never unhappy with TD, and thought TD has done a good job all year. This makes sense to me, McHale now has a handle on what Beverley can give the team if needed. No need to be confused about the rotation. McHale is just doing what coaches should do. He's experimenting with different player combinations to find out what works and what doesn't. While playing Beverley may have seemed strange to some Clutchfans, considering the Rockets were in the middle of a losing streak, I'm glad McHale was trying to shake things up a bit in order to get a win.
I think we're finally starting to fix our game. TD has been solid all season thus far, there was no reason to bench him and let some rookie fresh out of Europe take his spot. Recently however, I've noticed Beverely isn't playing as much, and TD is playing more again, which is definitely a good thing.
TD can sub for Harden, and Beverly for Lin. Harden can play with Beverly and Lin can with TD together.
I suspect the Rockets feel like they already know what Anderson can do against other NBA players, because this is his third year as an NBA player. Anderson has played in 94 NBA games, and some of those games were against the Rockets. Beverley on the other hand had played in Europe, played a few D-League games, was in training camp with Miami. McHale probably had never seen Beverley play except on video, so I can understand McHale giving him some minutes just to see what he could do.
I respect McHale's need to keep some secrets, and not explain all his thoughts to the media. Still, the idea that he would play Beverley for the entire fourth quarter just to "see what he could do" doesn't pass the sniff test. Sampson said some things I disagreed with in his interviews, but at least he came across as a straight-shooter. McHale dispenses more BS, making his interviews less informative.
glad that he played last night...i thought he got screwed by the front office(perhaps they are trying to minimize his value, so he wont be asked in a trade)
What about Jones and Motiejunas? Still doesn't make sense that Beverley was played immediately while the rookies have never played anything other than garbage minutes, sometimes not even that. I know the answer is probably: They have seen what those guys can do in practice and D-League. But why didn't they send Beverley to the D-League first?
I am glad McHale switched Parsons and Delfino on DWill after TD was lit up for 11 quick points in 4 min late in the first. At least McHale didn't kneejerk and take him out of the game for Beverley.
TD is a confidence player and he lost some of it when he was benched. Good to see him back in the rotation. 2-3 from three in 11 minutes tonight. Of course it's just a coincidence that the Rockets start winning again when TD returns to the rotation. I think he's a steady player when he gets the minutes and a calm, mature professional and on a team that could use some maturity at times.
