Everything I know about the legal system is from TV. I guess I should start watching British television.
LOL, I thought about my neighbors and yeah they love Disney. Disney would actually be perfect to distribute this film since they also own ESPN, ABC, ABC Family and Disney channels. 24hour Linsanity.
I should let this go... I'm not an English major... but I want to play one on the internet..lol  The primary definition of critique is review. Secondary definition is criticism. Criticism 1) act of criticizing: opinion or judgment of what is wrong or bad 2) disapproval: opinions that point out one or more faults. 3) assessment of creative work - also called critique 4) see critique. When you wrote "negative critique" and meant to use it as criticism it becomes redundant. Double negative. * if you meant the 3rd definition of criticism then you should've just use "review". lol
Not a double negative. Critique is a noun, not an adjective. I used critique because "review" is well known to be the entire article. Aren't you also the one that implied that Asian actors aren't discriminated against in Hollywood?
You use secondary and 3rd definitions of words.. to justify your meaning... I give up. Sorry for sidetracking this thread. My bad. Yes I said Asian actors aren't discriminated against any more than other minorities. I grew up in SF in the 70's/80's during the Chinese gang wars and forced busing so I know what discrimination is or isn't. These days everyone is so thin skinned and PC it's crazy. Sure there still is a lot of racisim out there, but not to the degree as in the past and for sure not as overt. People who have talent... athletes or actors will get work or create their own opportunities. However minorities usually have to work harder to get noticed. Hollywood is about making money. They don't care if you're a Purple Dinosaur if you make them money. Asian actors have gotten chances as stars or co-stars of hollywood movies or remakes of foreign movies but many if not most of them have not done well. Jackie Chan(Rush Hour 1,2,3, Tuxedo, Shanghai Knights, Medallion, Karate Kid, Forbidden Kingdom) Jet Li(Romeo must Die, Cradle 2 the Grave, Kiss of the Dragon,The One, War, Lethal Weapon 4 , Unleashed) Chow Yun Fat(Replacement Killers, Anna and the King, Corruptor, Bulletproof Munk) Lucy Lui is constantly working in tv had a great role on Southland last year now has a show Elementary on CBS and movies(Trouble with Bliss, Detachment, Lucky Number Slevin, Domino, Kill Bill 1,2, Charlies' Angels, Ballistic:Ecks vs Sever, Flypaper, Payback ). Kelly Hu was a regular on Nash Bridges, was just on Castle on tv, has a long guess star tv(CSI,NCIS, NCIS LA), and movie credit list (Tournament, Farm House, Stiletto, Devil's Den, Cradele 2 Grave, Scorpion King) MIng Na Wen has some tv credits(ER, Single Guy) and some movie credits (Push, One Night Stand, Street Fighter, Joy Luck Club) I own many of the movies I listed or have seen them on rental dvd, online or on premium movie channels. Here are some move movies with Asian actors or Asian themes I've seen. Made in China Charlotte Sometimes Ping Pong Playa Paper Heart Finishing the game: the search for a new Bruce Lee Chan is Missing Eat a Bowl of Tea Dim Sum Better Luck Tommorrow Joy Luck Club The Wedding Banquet Big Trouble in Little China Seventh Moon Smile Eat Drink Man Woman Two noted Asian directors Ang Lee and Wayne Wang. If you're interested in movies like these check imdb.com, amazon, netflix(I used to rent DVD's but I think they're still a good source), sundance channel, ifc (not so much now that they're showing Rambo and Friday the 13th movies) and other premium movie channels. A lot of good foreign Asian movies are shown subtitled or dubbed on movie channels now. I didn't list movies like Hero, Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon, Curse of the Golden Flower because are dubbed or subtitled.
So what you are saying is that people are always forced to use the first definition of a word? Anyways, apology accepted. It does show that you grew up in the 70s and 80s, because you've got the old-man mentality, "kids these days have it so easy". You're right, racism isn't as overt anymore, but it doesn't make it any less potent. And even if it wasn't as bad as it was back then, it doesn't mean that you just accept inequality as it stands today. To say people are skin-thinned is to advocate complacency. Sure there are going to be people that misfire, blaming racism in cases where it's not a factor - but that's better than doing nothing at all. You're right that Asians aren't discriminated against any more than other *visible* minorities - they are discriminated differently in the type of roles, based on prevaling stereotypes. They'll never cast an Asian actor in a lead romantic role, but they'll cast him as a kung fu sidekick. For every neutral or positive role, there's many negative roles where the Asian actor stands out as comic relief or the evil villian. If you noticed the Asian leads you listed, the male actors are from Asia, having created names for themselves already. The problem is, it's much harder for an Asian actor to make a name for himself here playing sidekicks or bit roles. It's much like Jeremy Lin - Linsanity wouldn't have happened if D'Antoni didn't give him a chance - and he only got that chance once all other options were exhausted. I know many Lin fans that, prior to Linsanity, were saying how badly he sucked (and therefore didn't deserve playing time). Many people are making the same assumption with Asian actors. Anyways, it's good that you support Asian film, most people haven't even heard of those titles.
lol nooooooooooooooooooooo please don't give Gamer4lyfe a reason to start his racism rants. Keep this thread clean for Caris sake!
Dude, those movies are....... like...... over a 30 year period. BTW, my friend used to hang out with Ming-Na's husband Eric. Umm, I think they could privately tell you little about the very real discrimination against Asians and Asian-Americans in Hollywood. I know this other very talented actress Hiep who couldn't get a decent part in Hollywood after doing amazingly well at age 22 in her debut role Heaven and Earth (1993). She's now 42 and in the restaurant business. Discrimination exists. Just watch the Grammy Awards, the Oscars, the Golden Globes etc. or go to your local AMC theater any freaking day of the year. Good luck finding decent Asian or Asian-American themed material or Asian-American artists in decent roles that aren't stereotypes.
Wish I could go to Sundance. I heard Joseph Gordon Levitt's directorial debut turned out really well, Don Jon's Addiction. Interested in watching this Lin documentary too. I stopped watching the NBA in high school and Linsanity single handledly got me back into it.
Love. Peace. Harmony. Yes, please keep this thread clean and drama free!! http://www.slate.com/blogs/browbeat...m_by_evan_jackson_leong_follows_nba_star.html
It's almost Sunday! I'm excited to see who will tag along. I would love to see Harden with him. That would be pretty cool.
