Maybe I'm one of the few but I just did not enjoy crouching tiger. Watched it on 3 separate occasions and just didn't care for it.

I enjoyed the first one as far as the story goes. But I thought the flying around was pretty ridiculous. It felt out of place and was just over the top.

What are they doing, making the film names by picking from those available on Xbox Gold Live?

These are adaptations of Chinese novels written in the 1930s or 1940s. The translations are literal.

I thought it was OK but didn't think it was great. I a Chow Yun Fat fan and a fan of epic martial arts movies but I didn't think Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon was that great. One thing was while Zhang Ziyi is certainly easy on the eyes I don't think she is really that good of an actor. Her character was so damn annoying along with her love interest that I was almost cheering when she tossed herself off the mountain. Unfortunately those are the type of characters that Zhang Ziyi excels at.

I will wait to hear more about this sequel before I get excited about it. One thing that does worry me though about it,
[rquoter]There is already a finished script, courtesy of The Forbidden Kingdom writer John Fusco, [/rquoter]

The Forbidden Kingdom is the worst movie that Jackie Chan and Jet Li have been in, and that is including The Tuxedo.

That was terrible. Wasn't that the movie about a white kid in ancient China? They always find a way to insert a white dude in non-white settings and make him the lead character.

And yes, Zhang Ziyi's character was annoying. Don't remember much about her love interest though, so he couldn't have been that bad.

As someone growing up watching up martial arts movies, never understood what the big fuss with CTHD is, when there are thousands of movies in the genre. Probably the only Lee Ang film that I didn't really enjoy (OK maybe also Sense and Sensibility or whatever it's called.)

I also have a problem with Zhang Ziyi being considered an "action star" even though all her fight scenes were done by stunt doubles. In the old days, actresses in martial arts films do all the fighting choreography themselves.

    e.g.

On the subject of Chow Yun Fat, I am looking forward to The Monkey King with him and Donnie Yen. I think it will be similar to the Forbidden Kingdom story but told better and more accurately without a misplaced white person in it. The movie apparently has a huge budget so hopefully it will deliver some quality cinema, maybe an epic like Red Cliff.

I think you guys misunderstood what CTHD really is about and that is an Ang Lee movie, not a Martial arts movie.. Sure it has Asians and swords/Wuxia and flying kung fu from tree top to tree top but deep down it's a drama/ballet centered around classic literature... The movie has beautiful cinematography/ very well shot and a great score to boot.. I don't see it as a Martial arts movie like Jet Li or Jackie Chan but Chinese literature in movie format, and I like that...

I'm a big fan of Ang Lee and CTHD. First time I was it I love the movie but wasn't really blown away by the actions hype. I thought it was very well directed with a great script. Very philosophical, poetic and great acting. My only problem was the wire fu actions because these are actors not real martial artists like Jet Li or Donny Yen who are wire fu expert. My biggest problem was Chow Yun-fat as the master because you can see he is such an amateur hanging on the wire and his landing was pretty awkward and not smooth making it seems like he is actually connected to a wire. My high expectation after seeing Jet Li's Once Upon a Time and Fong Sai Yuk series was to me a high water mark and CTHD did not reach that. But the story and acting overall made up for it.

I actually liked Fearless more than CTHD and liked Hero less than CTHD... House of flying daggers was okay but nowhere as good as Fearless or CTHD, I'd rank them:

    Wuxia
    1. Fearless
    2. CTHD
    3. Hero
    4. Forbidden Kingdom (Yeah I know, sue me!)
    5. House Of Flying Daggers

Oh, and what do I think about this sequel? It's 10 yrs too late and it will probably suck. The actions will probably be better than CTHD but what make CTHD special because Ang Lee brought his A game directing the beautiful story that make you care about the characters(even the villian character Jade Fox)and there is no way Ronny Yu is going to do this movie justice.

By the way Sino. You don't know what you are talking about. Zhang Ziyi actually did most of her stunts. Sure the actions in CTHD was no where near most other Chinese/Hong Kong wu zhu cinema. But it was far superior in mixing/combining a great sophisticated story with martial arts than most other Chinese/Hong Kong wu zhu martial art movies at the time until Zhang Yimou came out with House of Flying Daggers and Hero.
