The Rockets signed Lin to a 3 year $25,000,000 contract after jumping into Les Alexander's time machine and knowing they would be able to trade for James Harden in the future. After promising Lin $25,000,000 Alexander, Morey, McHale, Sampson and Harden met at a secret location and decided that they would do everything possible to keep Lin out of the all star game. McHale responded by playing Harden 40 minutes a game, mind you, not because he is a top 10 player in the world, but only to sabotage Lin's chances to play in the all star game.

McHale wasn't part of the plan to bring in Lin. It was Les and Morey who forced Lin on the coach. Alexander has designs on the Asian market. The thought of a billion loyal fans rocking Rockets gear and watching his sports network was too tempting. So he put Morey on the case. The angry McHale stewed about this all summer. Losing Gogi. LOFs. When the Harden deal came through, it was an epiphany, it was a way out. All that was then needed was to sabotage Lin's career while keeping the Boy Scout oblivious to these machinations by getting an agent close to Lin.
