I'm cautiously optimistic about our starting rotation

This thread is full of crazy. This team is not going to be competitive on the mound or at the plate. The "Tampa" approach the Astros are taking ensures about 5-7 years of terrible baseball. This is only year 3. You think the team might surprise with a payroll less than $30 million and next to zero top prospects competing for major league jobs? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dFtLONl4cNc

Son can you please read more carefully before lobbing in posts like this from the cheap seats? I said that I still think we'll be challenged not to lose 100 games. I don't have deluisional visions of shutting down the Angels and Rangers lineups all season. Only that I was cautiously optimistic versus expectations.

It is possible they'll be worse, sure. But there is nothing wrong with having a little hope leading up to Spring Training. I mean...they aren't terrible until they are terrible, right? ha

word. for example, I hope Bud Selig's car breaks down and I hope his golf clubs get stolen at the airport.

And then I hope he runs into Patti Labelle and her entourage at said airport.

If you can't have hope going into Spring Training, you're not a baseball fan. We all know they suck and will be lucky to avoid losing 100 games for the 3rd consecutive year. Maybe it's the radio jock in Mattj that just assumes we're all morons. Nobody is having illusions that this team is anything but 30th out of 30. Doesn't make me crazy for hoping and being optimistic that maybe the rotation is possibly on the upswing and that we might see some improvement from the youngest team in the league with a full season under their belt.

Considering no one in this thread even said the team would be competitive, his post seems really out of place.

I have faith that we will be 29th out of 30. Just seems right with a seemingly consensus #1 guy going to be available (a lot can change in 2 years), that we'd miss out on the top pick.

What current Astro would you guys peg as being the most draftworthy fantasy wise?

I really need help getting my fantasy keeper league back on track.

In standard leagues, Lowrie, Veras, & Altuve are the most definite draftable players. I think Castro could be a good pickup at Catcher if the top guys aren't available.

Edit: Starter wise, I'd go Bud Norris ahead of Harrell (assuming league is deep enough for either) for the potential of being moved to closer where his fantasy value would skyrocket.

Everyone is entitled to his opinion. I don't think mine is any better or worse than anyone else's. I just don't see what the fascination is with Norris, Lyles or Humber. I like Harrel. Lyles is young, but his stuff is so hittable. Bud's ego will get him killed in the AL. He thinks he can throw his fastball by everyone. Cosart is the one guy that gets me excited on the pitching staff.

Bud to me has a bigger problem with not having enough confidence. He lets bad luck and poor defense get to him.

Lyles turned 22 after last season. 22. We hope his production will catch up to his talent next season.

Humber may not make the rotation any more. I like Bedard a lot more.

Unfortunately, I cant find even cautious optimism regarding our starters, or our pitching staff in general.

I dont see a overpowering arm coming out of the farm early enough in the year to have an impact. I dont see us signing a #1 or #2 starting pitcher. And I dont see our current staff pitching well in the AL. In other words, I think we will get hammered and give up the most runs in the AL this coming year.

I see help coming sooner and in more numbers for the position players, and DO have some cautious optimism there. Later in the season anyway.
