I have always wondered the same thing, everyone usually only names Greek and Turkish food, but why isn't Italian food mentioned?
Mamouns is the best meal you can have in Manhattan for 2 bucks, but hardly the best meal. I've seen quite a few famous people eating there over the past few years. I think the best falafel in the Manhattan is at Tahini. Its near Cooper Union on 3rd Ave.
So what is the difference between Mediterranean food and Persian food and I am speaking about the food, not geography. TIA.
It's all Greek to me, (golf clap) My favorite has always been Zabak's. They have been in Houston since the mid 80's and have the best felafel; one that I defy New Yorkers to say otherwise...
Answering this question a few years late, but the Houston equivalent is at a place called Jones Fried Chicken (yes, seriously). The food is good and cheap considering how much they give you. But it's the same format- meat with rice and sauce. Not the best place to sit but to go or they even have a drive thru.
What is in Persian food that absolutely destroys my stomach? Assuming it's one of the spices... In the list of things that don't make me sick, I'm straight addicted to Fadi's muhammara. On top of their falafel, Zabaks makes my favorite gyro.
Jones fried chicken is just like the famous New York chicken and rice. The people working in there wear shirts that New York style chicken and rice or something like that. Located on fondren and 59. Lamb over rice is good, Their fried chicken wings are awesome too.
