After watching the Royce video and reading Dmo's 'Want more PT" segment and seeing all the comments, it just got me thinking. How much power does our coach have? Royce even said it. That our coach has very little power. Quite a few people on here have suggested reasons as to why PPat and MMorris are getting all the rotation minutes. They are being showcased? What if it is true, that the coach has to play whom he is told to play. If he is not allowed to play Dmo or TJones to keep them off the market, why is it that us fan are bashing the hell outta McHale if it is not his choice? Why is it that Beverly gets played ASAP while our other two rookies are still waiting? Is this a Morey master plan as some have suggested? Or is this McHale bust? So what I want to see is where Clutchfans stands on what we think who has the last call. Maybe Clutch or Bima can clear things up.....
Had you told me before game one that 35 games into the season we'd be 7 games over .500 and a 6th seed, I probably would have called you a homer. .500 at 44 games and 8th seed is still probably optimistic at the beginning of the season. Now, if you want a good pick in the draft, then start Jones or DMo. That's also a fine strategy for this season, I suppose.
I think McHale would have been playing Dmo already if he was available for play. He is the type of coach who will play who is producing and a great example of the is Parsons over Budinger. CB was our starter but Parsons outplayed him in practice and in games to eventually take that starting role (another would be Cole losing the back up C position to Smith). Mchale has said time and time again that Dmo does well in practice. With that record of playing whom is performing (another example is Morris over Ppat at the beginning of the year) I think it is pretty safe to say that as of late, Morris and PPat would be easily best on performance by anyone else. So for those of you saying McHale doenst play our youngs, I beg to differ and encourage to actually rethink these last two year as McHale has proven quite differently. I think the people claiming its for showcasing have nailed it. On another note I saw someone blaming McHale for the drafting of RW. Are you serious. Yes, he wanted RW but that makes him to blame? No, only one person is to blame and that is Morey. Morey took up McHale on his wanting RW but it was Moreys choice. Lets get real and please think, if McHale is a short term plan, you would get who he wanted? No, not at all.
Kind of funny how things have transpired... We trade Lowry, Budinger, etc...everybody expects us to be awful and is okay with it because it's tanking oriented. We trade for Harden...everybody is excited and expects a slightly better team, but still well out of playoff contention, and everybody is okay with it because we are young, inexperienced, but have tons of talent. We play much better than expected to start the first half of the season, and 35 games in we're 7 games over .500...everybody is thrilled at our unexpected success, but still realizes that we are young, and such play cannot possibly be expected for the whole season, and everybody is okay with that because we look much better than expected. Now...we go on a dry spell, and everybody acts like it's the end of the world, Harden's a "black hole", and all the other overreactions mentioned on this board. Point is....we're .500, and that is SO MUCH BETTER than ANYBODY expected us to be prior to game 1. Not really sure why everybody is losing it because the youngest team in the league is in a completely expected cold stretch. Of course there are MANY improvements that need to be made (Harden turnovers, Lin overall production, defense, coaching, etc.), but there isn't a person on this website who can honestly say they expected us to be much better than where we're at.
I was thinking that exact same thing regarding Tony Douglas. Maybe he fell out of the rotation due to there being an impending trade in 3 or 4 weeks. Morey is always trying to maximize assets for the future at the expense of the present. So what if he is a free agent at the end of the season and leaves for nothing. The right decision would be to play him like usual until the end of the season, considering that he was a key player to winning games.
Using the "Showcasing Player X" excuse for why someone is getting minutes when your unknown rookie isn't is a pretty common and weak argument. It doesn't really happen much. For instance, in college it NEVER happens because there are no trades. Still doesn't prevent people from yelling about how Player X shouldn't be starting and the new guy (with no court time to actually know) should. Blame it on Les, is actually a better argument. He has told both Morey and McHale that he wants to win games.
Morey has said repeatedly he gets the players and gives statistical input, and he let's the coaches coach. I don't have reason to doubt that isn't the case.
We should play the season out and fire mchale.... And hire d'antonie, you know he will be let go at the end of the season by the lakers. Thats all we hear in LA now, Howard or d'antonie, who will be gone, greater chance it will be the coach.....and his system is perfect with the young guys we have. Dmo can run, the starters can run. Why not.
Iman Shumpert, Avery Bradley, Kenneth Faried, Klay Thompson, Harrison Barnes, Kawhi Leonard. These are all rookies who were or currently are major contributors to a successful team. Terrence Jones was looking like a stud in summer league, pre-season and now he's tearing up the D-League. As Long as McHale realises that we shouldn't play imaginary "stretch-4" for entire games how can you say that giving this guy some decent rotational minutes would be such a detriment to the team that we'd be a lottery team? Has the production from Patterson and Morris been that imperative to our success?
Are you implying that McHale is not doing a good job? Because if you had told me the Rockets would be a .500 team at the midpoint of the season, I would have said no way that will happen. I don't know who has the last call, but I hope Morey and McHale keep doing whatever they are doing, because it has worked so far. Complainers are going to complain I guess. And where is the option on this poll where I can vote that there is nothing wrong with the damn rotation.
D'Antoni is a terrible coach. We have the personnel to play his 7-seconds or less basketball and would probably make the play-offs but we won't get out of the West, and he's too stubborn and incompetent to make adjustments to his system.
McHale should take notes from the Vipers head coach Nurse. Nurse plays his bigs and in some cases has at least 3 6'10" players on floor instead of playing small ball like McHales keeps wanting to do.
Another idea that I had as far as Beverly and why he was inserted into the rotation so quickly is it was perhaps the bright idea of Morey to motivate Lin to play better. Like they are saying to him "your play is lacking, so we needed to get a point guard to provide better defense, consistency, etc." which is true, but why did it cost Douglas his playing time? If that was the plan, it hasn't worked. If anything, Lin has played worse and less confidently than ever since Beverly got into the games.
Did it ever occur to you that maybe the Rockets are preparing to trade Douglas before the trade deadline, and they think they may have found a replacement that costs less. Maybe before they trade Douglas away they want to see if Beverley can play or not. It probably doesn't have anything to do with Jeremy Lin.
I did not post my opinion on the OP to keep it neutral but if you read the third post, my reply....to myself I guess, you will see I am actually a McHale supporter. I am one of the few ;(
Morey mentioned that he has no input or control over player minutes. He stays in his GM chair and leaves all of that to the coaching staff.
Iunno why, I think it's better we just go full on tank mode from now on I really don't think we are good or consistent enough to make the playoffs, it will be like another collapse at the end and my heart cant handle another 14th pick. but then again we are probably too good to lose that many games.
This has been said many times but I feel like I have to repeat it for people who are just looking at the box score and not watching the games. IT IS NOT ABOUT HOW MANY GAMES WE LOST BUT ABOUT HOW WE LOST THEM. McHale and Sampson need to go.
