Avery Johnson? he could bring the spurs mentality here :)

he was coaching a premadona team (Nets) and got sacked...

he would be a good coach for a young team tho

He also lacks a true system. He would be equally as bad as McHale. D Will was frustrated because of AJ's non existent system.

JVG wouldn't bench Lin, he's got insane loyalty to his players. I imagine he would like Lin since he's coachable.

it is more on D will than AJ's fault... D will got a coach fired in UTAH(Jerry Sloan) and now he got a coach fired in Brooklyn... coincidence?

It doesn't matter who the next head coach is. If Morey and Finch are still around the next coach will just be another YES man.

He just said yesterday Lin is the most overrated play this season.

Jeff Van Gundy. I can't even think of anybody else.

    You mean Stan Van Gundy?

From there, Saraceno and SVG discuss the usual topics. Stan thinks Jeremy Lin is the NBA’s most overrated player, but only brings that up in relation to his high ranking All-Star votes.

Or did did Jeff say that as well?

SVG's comments on Lin being overrated are fair, he obviously sees the All-Star game as having prestige and doesn't believe Lin's play should have privileged him that honour.

But yeah, JVG would be a decent coach, Sloan would be good as well. Judging by McHale comments he's a smart guy too and is supposedly open to adjustments. The problem is that his 'system' that he has the players running this season is completely flawed. Completely flawed. And he didn't place trust in his players, he scrapped the playbook because he thought guys couldn't execute, he scrapped post-ups because he didn't think our PFs could do it, and he invested too much trust in players like Delfino and Parsons to make plays.

The New Orleans Hornets focused on defense-first offense later, and Monty Williams never created plays for Anthony Davis, he just told him to get his points within the flow of the game. He saw that Greivis was a good PG and so he made him run point, scrapped the idea of Austin Rivers and it helped to place players into positions as the game progressed. I feel like the amount of playing time Rivers received was more a management decision because they invested a lot into him, and even so, it's at least good that he tried to develop his rookie when he was recording one of the most statistically appalling NBA seasons of all-time.

The Trailblazers immediately gave the ball to Lillard and told him he was their franchise PG and they went from there.

I don't even know what we got here, we got a disaster, our record looks pretty but unless we fix-up a lot of holes we're going to be bomb under .500.

His old team is winning like 90% of their games since he was fired. Guy can't coach. Period.

does not prove anything, change of coaches always gets the players fired up to play. did you know that PJ carlisimo is the former assistant coach of Greg Pops? AJ is a former player of Pops so basically they are running the same sets, same system... nothing changed...

    Not a good motivator?

For me, the major barometer of a coaches motivational skills is how hard his team plays for him on a consistent basis. Therefore, if you can honestly say that the Rockets are outworked by their opponents regularly then I will concede this point.

However, the Rockets were 16th in the NBA in wins and losses with the 19th pay roll. A bad coach, by definition, does not have his team play better than their pay roll. And my eyes tell me that Mchale has his young team play with a lot of heart.

Also, the coaches you have suggested with their long and storied tenure with Hall of Fame talent on their roster has ZERO championships combined. ZILCH.
If you handed over this roster to any other coach, do you honestly think they could squeeze out a dramatic number of wins? Really?

While he has yet to prove he's an elite coach (no ****?), he's definitely a solid coach who has his young team play HARD each and every time they play.

It was very telling when, after his daughter had passed away, to pay tribute to Coach Mchale, the players said they will play "Mchale" ball. That is, to play hard on defense, and hustle a bit more.

I McFail to see the point of how he's a bad coach.

D-Will complained about Jerry Sloan's offense when he was in Utah as well. So it could be just that D-Will is a diva...
