Not sure Jackson would give them the satisfaction after getting burned by the Lakers when they decided to hire D'antoni instead of him.

    ring tone

Kupchak: Yes, Daryl, I thought you'd be calling.

Morey: Anyone not named Harden, a bag of Chee-tos, a box of Trojans Magnums (it was a gag Christmas present, as if they'd fit me), my firstborn child, and I'll kiss your ring. For Dwight Howard.

Kupchak: I like Cuban's deal better, he offered me Brand and Marion. ring

Morey: WHAAAT!? Hello? Hello! Son of a expletive deleteding expletive deleted!!!

Kupchak: (chortling, to Buss) Don't worry, he'll call back with a better offer.

    No way.

Phil will only go to a team that is top 5 in talent in the league. Can you see Chicago...Lakers...a new Seattle team? He doesn't want to coach a team that would be really lucky to make the playoffs.

I do think he'd go back to the Lakers if he felt that they could compete. Probably not this year because they suck. But if they make some changes and look like they can compete for a title then I would not be surprised if he came back.

The rumor was that Phil would go into management in Seattle as an adviser, not as a coach.

I don't see what advice Phil could give other than "get a top level wingman". I get he's good with managing egos, but I don't see how that translates to management.

That he's looking to be the face of Seattle.

    This makes more sense then.

    Good to hear.

I just wonder how he'd play next to Asik if he struggles playing next to Howard. I also remember issues with him playing alongside Bynum. Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't he perform best when he was the center and Lamar Odom was the power forward?

I still think the Bucks are the best partner for the Lakers.

Basically they'll use his name to draw attention

Just like the New Jersey Nets shoved Brooklyn down your throat so much now you forgot they were the New Jersey Nets less than a year ago.

    Yeah, you need
    1) a team with no center
    2) a team with cap/cash to burn
    3) a team that is currently spinning their wheels and needs help bad

Bucks would love to swap Ilyasova for Gasol, but I don't know if the Lakers want to touch a long contract like that, even if it comes with an expiring like Udrih or Dalembert.

If Lakers are determined to dump Pau, another possible fit would be the Wizards: Okafor, Ariza, and a protected first. Washington needs a real center in the worst way.

Toronto is another place that makes sense on both ends. Bargnani would be a better fit as a D'Antoni PF and could offer some immediate cap relief at the expense of an additional year vs Gasol.

I agree with you about Toronto, and I think they'd be a better fit than Washington.

However, given how terrible Bargnani has played as of late, and especially that Bargnani has a reputation for being lazy, I don't know if the Lakers want him in an already fractured locker room. How would Andrea react to Kobe criticizing him? I do, however, think he'd be a perfect fit in MDA's system, and as a personal fan of Bargnani- would like to see how he'd thrive in a new enviroment. Throw in Fields for salary, and I think both teams could benefit (or crash and burn).

It's not so much that he plays PF it's that D'Antoni's system forces him to be a face up shooter and play away from the basket. Our offense would be fine switching Asik to the weak side for rebounding and having Gasol look for quick post ups on the block. This is how he played next to Odom. Having two 7 footers is a great asset if they have different skill sets.

Also, LA didn't pick D'Antoni OVER Jackson. They never even got in contact with Jackson. There was no way Phil was EVER going to coach the Lakers this season. He wanted nothing to do with that, and neither did Jerry Buss. That was all media speculation and nothing more.

    youre wrong

The new S&T provisions dont kick in for another 2 seasons so LA can still do a sign and trade. So yes we still have a shot at D Howard and can still offer him a Max deal. No shot at CP3 but unless Dwight changes his mind about playing at home in ATL, we're the best option for Trade w/ the Lakers and the best Basketball option for Dwight. He never had an Alpha dog like Harden to close, he only played with shooters, With Lin/Harden running pick n roll with him his point avg would be over 20 again.

The Bulls beatwriter yesterday was discussing the rent Lakers/Bulls game. He reported that several Laker players and employees stated that Kobe and Dwight do not like each other on the court or off the court.

The reporter said the general feeling in the Lakers locker room is that Dwight will not be a Laker next year because he has no interest playing with Kobe and wants to control the locker room. Last he said that the Lakers are expected to hold onto Howard and hope to convince him to stay, but no one in the locker room wants him back or thinks he will be back.

    Last, Gasol really dislikes MDA.
