Please, Frank Bush had a relatively short tenure with the team as a DC, his predecessor, Richard Smith, was the one that hung around for 3 whole seasons doing jack even when he had Mario Williams, Dunta Robinson, multiple first round picks and DeMeco Ryans in his defense. That was a better example of them not pulling the trigger because I know a lot of people were calling for his head before the end of year 2.

Smith was vanilla, but Bush had a shot at worst ever in league history. I'm still pissed that he kept his job after the Jets comeback 2010. Even the most blatant good ol boy network hire in David Gibbs kept his job all season.

Again, I'd ask that we show a *little* perspective as we continue to venture further into the heart of the offseason..

Yes, the 49ers went after a new QB - Alex Smith had been a years-long bust who finally put together a single efficient, effective season. Most teams would do what the Niners did (and I'd include Kubiak in that list, FYI) - there was no reason to trust or invest in Alex Smith. Love or hate Schaub, his resume is infinitely better than Alex Smith's.

The Falcons didn't fire their coordinators - both left to take HC jobs - kind of an important tidbit. I'm going to guess - just a wild guess - if Dennison and Phillips both left... Kubiak would probably replace them.

The Steelers letting Arians walk would classify as "major," sure - but his results were worthy of a shake-up. The Steelers' offense ranked 17th, 22nd, 7th, 14th and 12th under Arians. In his three years, Dennison's offenses have ranked 3rd, 13th*, and 7th.

The Ravens' firing Cameron mid-season was indeed a *major* shake-up - but let's tap the brakes on labeling fairly routine offensive tweaks that almost every team investigates each offseason as "major shake-ups." I promise: the Texans tweak and fix issues every offseason, too.

(* - they ranked 13th in 2011, in which Dennison had Schaub, Foster and Johnson together for exactly one half of football. And even then, Arians' offenses outranked that just twice in five seasons.)

Smith's coordinators changed just about every year he was in the league
Schaub did not have that issue
