I have to admit...it is kind of disgusting how many are seemingly letting Brent off the hook (well...that's what it feels like sometimes but it's mostly his teammates I guess) and we are supposed to somehow accept it because it was his best friend that died and not some other unlucky bystander. He is no different from any other drunk who gets behind the wheel and kills somebody. The amount of alcohol in his system was more than double the limit. It's an outrage he would even attempt to drive with that amount of alcohol in his system. Yes, Jerry Brown is responsible for getting in the car as well. But, anyway you cut it...Brent should not be treated any differently than any other drunk who causes an accident. I suspect he will serve a fair amount of time because of his previous DUI. And, the idea that he can go get sloshed at some private club with his fellow Cowboys players (11 others?) and noone say anything to stop him kind of makes them look bad as well. How many of them were too drunk to drive home and did? If the NFL wants to get serious about banning DUI-ers, then they should have an automatic one year ban at least for the player...and maybe more depending on the circumstances. How many NFL-ers you think would be out driving drunk like that if they knew they would receive an auto-ban for a year if they get caught? Also, if it doesn't already, then it should probably invalidate their contract with their team as well. If the team wants to support him, then fine. But, he is a repeat offender and doesn't really deserve sympathy from the public imo. He claimed to have changed after his first DUI and grown up from the experience. Oh really? The NFL needs to let its privileged players (who many think just cause they are NFL-ers they can do whatever they want) know there is a zero tolerance policy with a stiff suspension system in place.

I saw a highlight of him on the sidelines. Why would Jerrra allow that?

The US system is too lax on DUIs. A small monetary fine is all it takes to correct a potentially fatal mistake. I wish they'd change the punishment to a $5,000+ fine for a first time DUI, then a three month license suspension. People will finally realize it's not okay to drink and drive.

Brown's family is more forgiving than I could ever be. I hope the judicial system isn't as forgiving.

They were like brothers. They both made a mistake. Jerry didn't have to get in the ride. The mistake does not undo the bond that these men shared.

I call bulls#!t on this one. I can maybe see the NFL not knowing (though I seriously doubt Goodell didn't call Jerry and tell him to keep Brent under wraps) but for Jerry and Garrett to NOT know he was going to be on the sidelines? BS. Totally. This is covering their butts after it blew up in their face, plain and simple.

Oh, definitely. No one likes to speak ill of the dead, but let's face it: Brown is at least 50% responsible for this tragedy.

[rquoter]DALLAS -- A grand jury in Texas has formally indicted Dallas Cowboys nose tackle Josh Brent on one count of intoxication manslaughter.

Brent is charged in connection with a Dec. 8 crash that killed his friend and Cowboys practice squad member Jerry Brown. Brent is out of jail on $100,000 bond.

Dallas County District Attorney's Office spokeswoman Debbie Denmon says the indictment was returned Wednesday.

Police in the Dallas suburb of Irving say Brent was speeding when his vehicle struck a curb and flipped. Brown was pronounced dead at an area hospital.

Intoxication manslaughter carries a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison. Brent could be eligible for probation.

Denmon says no court dates have been scheduled.[/rquoter]

How much prison time is where the focus should be. It was a complete disgrace for him to be on the sideline.

Cowboys should release Ratliff. Getting a DWI so soon after a teammate dies as a result of an intoxicated driver is inexcusable.

So he refused the breath test. Did he fail a blood test? If not he's innocent until proven guilty.
