Do I need to educate you? 3 million with team option? Would you keep him? next season or pay him 3 mill, pretty simple no need to downrate or hate. Im on your side
I think this is a legitimate question. Delfino is surely worth $3 mil and probably more in 2013-14, to any team, but would Houston maybe want to decline the option so as to give itself an additional $3 mil in cap space? That might be the difference between landing Highly Desirable Player X and not landing Highly Desirable Player X? Especially if/when it is conceivable that Houston can replace Delfino's production internally (Marcus Morris, Terrence Jones, James Anderson, hell, maybe even Royce White, who knows)? I am leaning toward answering "No, I don't think Houston keeps him," for the above reasons. What makes the most sense is fairly obvious: trade Delfino to a contending team for an expiring contract of a worthless player along with a draft pick. In which case Houston gets something valuable for a player that they found on the free agent scrap heap this past summer AND gains that $3 mil in cap space (by letting the worthless player walk at the end of the season). This would be an extremely logical move for Daryl Morey to make, and Morey tends to make extremely logical moves.
To be honest, im right in line with your thinking. But 3 mill with veteran leadership and his shooting hard to give up.
I'm not even sure they'll keep him past the trade deadline. If they do, then this discussion becomes at least slightly more worth while.
The last thing you need to be doing is to try an educate crash. He doesn't need it. I think he meant that you should have had a more substantial opening post. You know, say why you think we should keep him, if you believe that we should, and then ask for the thoughts of the rest of us. There might also be a thread or two out there where this subject is discussed. A search before you posted would have been a good idea. Having said that, I like Delfino. I hope we hang on to the guy. He's a valuable part of the rotation, is crazy deadly from 3 when he's hot, a better defender than I expected, and has experience that's sorely needed on this young team. And Carlos Delfino continues our connection to Argentina. Viva Delfino!
I completely agree with your logic points, but I also feel like it depends who we can get. Right now, I don't think any of our players (internally) can replace the void that will be left if Delfino goes, but also I see the appeal to letting him go in order to attain that extra $3 Million. I really think it'll come down to who/what we can get when the time comes.
Just depends on how much salary cap space they think they are going to need going into free agency. If there is a legit chance at Howard, no doubt that they will most likely decline Delfino's option. If the player they are looking to acquire is via trade, then they most likely keep him. Alot could change about this team in July, and Delfino is one of those potentially moving parts that could either get declined, or traded on a draft day trade similar to that of the Dalembert trade last year. If I had to guess I would say that Im skeptical about him being a Rockets next season. This season, I think he will most likely finish the season. He's too important to this team getting in the playoffs, and you aren't going to get much for him at the deadline anyways.
Carlos has been a pleasant surprise... much better defender, passer, ball-handler and shooter then I expected. We need a vet and he brings some skills and leadership that a team as young as ours needs. Hopefully we keep him.
I'm gonna go as far to say i feel that Carlos has won some games for us this year. Albit not in harden's closer fashion but instead hitting some timely shots and three's that stop runs. So my answer is yes, i think his contract is cheap and he offers a lot of production and value at the 3.
Is Daryl Morey even gonna be active when the trade deadline gets closer or is he gonna just stay with the team he has now ??? ...(just wondering)
