When Patterson was pulled after only a few minutes in yesterdays game, Bill was speculating that maybe Patterson was having foot trouble again. I think Patterson came back and played a few more minutes in the second half, but that was it. I wouldn't be surprised to find out that the Rockets phoned the RGV during the game and informed them that TJones was being called back up because Patterson is going to miss some games. Just speculation on my part, but I watched the Vipers game and I found it strange that TJones was benched in the first half.

why do people care so much whether or not he gets called up and down??

Its great experience for him to be with the Rockets and by calling him up, they are letting him know he is a valuable piece and they want him to develop more and integrate in the system.

It is equally fine that he gets sent down to the Vipers so he can get STARTERS MINUTES playing basketball in a similar system to the Rockets. What is so great about sitting at the end of the bench not playing at all in the NBA? Why waste away when you can work on your game. I don't get the CFs who are so upset by this--if anything, he is learning a lot, and gets the best of both worlds. But "oh no, he has to fly back and forth from Rio Grande to Houston, how terrible" --really people, if anything he is proving himself to the organization and shows how bad he wants it. Lin, Morris, PPAT all those guys said the D-league helped them transition. Its not such a bad thing.

Having said all of that, I really hope they give Jones and DMO a shot at the PF positions. As was posted before, PPAT and Morris are sucking up all the suckiness on the court, and YES there is room for rookies because they can't be much worse. Why not let these 4 compete and see who wants it more. At this point, what is the harm? If they show incompetence, make stupid mistakes, can't shoot, defend, or rebound then sit them and/or send them back to the Vipers. but if they can do ONE OF THOSE FRIGGING THINGS then start them because Morris and PPAT can't do anything right lately.

    My 2/100 of a $

Is this really beneficial for Terrence's psyche? I mean, seriously. It's getting out of hand at this point-- let the kid settle down so he knows where he's going to work.

Really need to start putting the date in these sent to d-league/recall thread titles, since there have to be a 1000 of them, and I never know if it's old news or not until I click it.
Is any team using the new unlimited d-league assignments more than the Rockets? Too bad for Terrence that the Vipers aren't as close to Houston (6 hrs driving) as the Legends are to Dallas (about 50 min I think). He could just get a house in between. Before regular season, I expected him to have made his way into rotation by mid season, judging from his summer league and preseason play, and I'm bummed he hasn't yet.

on one hand, i think the rockets should be able to call up and send down players as often as they want. It could even have the affect of toughening them up mentally. On the other hand, it does feed into the narrative about the Rockets treating players as "assets" and could potentially have the effect of undermining a player's confidence.

I still think the Rockets are ahead of the curve, using the D-League for player development, but the back and forth with Terrence Jones seems a bit excessive. My hat's off to the young man for rolling with the punches. I do think it's time to insert him into the rotation though, considering the poor play of our 4's and the fact that we need a spark right now.

Updated the original post to include the press release.

Motiejunas is going to the D-League to take Jones' place, so that answers that.

Not a surprise. I'm looking forward to see D-Mo in some D-league action.

You know what's better for player development d-league?

Playing them in limited minutes and playing them in garbage/blowout games.
Not sending them back and forth like a stroke to the penor.

You'll notice there aren't too many blowout games, though. You might argue a 15 point game with 4 minutes left is a blowout, but increasingly you see all coaches of every team keep starters in... because 4 minutes these days really is enough time to come back... it happens more often than you'd expect. And 1 game can be the difference between in playoffs or out, or 4 seed or 5 seed, etc.

That said, you would have liked to have seen one of TJones or DMo given consistent burn earlier in the season to see which one could hang...

... but my strong gut is that DM will flip either Morris or Patterson (or both) as part of a large deal, or for some low hanging fruit, near the trade deadline, at which point a rotation spot will by necessity come available.

Of course that doesn't explain why McHale goes to the small ball lineup so so much, or why Greg Smith's minutes yo-yo so much...

Terrence Jones has been simply awful in D-League play after playing okay last summer.

The constant sending Terrence Jones down to D-League appears to have destroyed his confidence as an NBA player.

Just another in a long series of idiotic moves by Morey.

Patrick Patterson, Marcus Morris, Donatas Montiejunas, Terrence Jones, Royce White. Morey has been striking out badly in his quest for a PF, passing up numerous superior prospects, but by golly, he'll find one!

    That's five strikes for Morey.

He should have been out of a job after three.
