Get Josh Smith now, get Dwight later. Not sure I want this to happen anymore but it's been my prediction for a while.
Morey would have been all over that deal, but Speights would have hurt the Rockets chances drastically at brining in a large salary player in the offseason even with his reasonable 4.2 mil salary. They barely have enough now to offer a max salary contract in the Summer so yes, that 4 or 5 million extra in salary to be taking wouldn't be worth the draft pick, and the short term help in the paint.
Selby, Ellington, and Speights would have drastically improved the Rockets from what we have now. Nevermind the first rounder, screw salary i would have done that deal, but i know Moron wont because he is too concerned with his fantasy basketball( you know throwing the Rockets in make believe trade rumors, that will never happen)
Im sure they would, but you aren't getting it. The Front Office has their hearts set on acquring star player #2. Is winning a few games more this year really worth jeapordizing your cap space that you have to acquire a star player? The answer is no. Plus, the roster spots & the cap space doesn't quite add up. Rockets would have had to cut Beverly, Anderson first, and include a minimum salary player in the deal which they don't have. The first round picks that the Rockets would have had to trade(D-Mo, Jones, White(HAH), Morris, 2Pat) make too much to include in the deal. Keep in mind that Memphis is now avoiding the lux tax by close to 100K. Every dollar counts for them here, and you sure as hell aren't trading Chandler Parsons to get Speights. You could have traded James Anderson instead, but what rookies are you cutting to make roster space for?... you going to cut D-Mo, and eat 4 million dollars..... Terrence Jones.... Well, cutting Royce White actually makes sense, but we will just leave that one be. To make the deal work for Memphis it just would have been too complicated so that's why it was much easier for Memphis to just deal with Cleveland instead.
You know what is really scary. I had a dream last night and Gasol was playing for the Rockets 8l Know most will think what a horrible terrible nightmare that i had. But it was not. Cause lining up next to Gasol was Dwight Howard, haha. Silly dreams!!!!
