I think if you have a 60 million dollar QB he should be able to win games for you.

To put it another way, "Schaub go win us the game or Schaub just don't lose it for us"?

Who knew game managers were so expensive?!?!?!?!

Man, they're going to be so pissed if they win a Superbowl!!!!

A QB actually has SIGNIFICANT financial incentive to step up his game... and he does.

A QB actually has LACK of any financial incentive to step up his game... and he doesn't

    Honest Question:

Does anyone think Schaub can work improve his explosiveness. I know that he'll watch film and work on reading defenses and developing chemistry with his receivers. But...is it impossible for him to get stronger and faster? He's so immobile and so bad at escaping sacks...there's just so much room for improvement there. Or does he just accept that he's terrible in that situation and is hopeless there?

do you honestly believe his last 2 good games are because of a financial incentive?
It sounds good and dandy but I really don't see that playing any part once the game starts.

Schaub should call up Tony Horton, and get on that P90X! 90 days from now, we won't even recognize him!

80% plus about his o-line being awesome in the playoffs. But absolutely I think being pressured by things like contract, a backup pushing you, etc. can be a positive or negative influence on some people.

i suggested this last year and was basically laughed at. received some of the most ridiculous responses as if i suggested schaub come into camp looking like leron landry. i merely suggested that schaub trim some of the fat as it MIGHT help just a tadbit with some mobility.. nobody wanted to hear it..

Is an elite QB really necessary?

so what about his poor perfomance during the regular season?
so what about the defense getting healthy just in time for the playoffs?
so what about the O-line really protecting him, or have WRs that doesnt drop passes.

the ravens lost 4 or the last 5 games, and flacco played bad during those games, he almost lost to san diego, and lost against a team with charlie batch as a QB.

word. Tom Brady, Peyton Manning, Aaron Rodgers, and wonderboy III will all be watching the Superbowl next weekend. And, Trent Dilfer has more rings than Dan freaking Marino.

That doesn't exactly make me happy. Because we don't have Kapearnik the versatile two-way threat who puts the fear into defenses. Nor do we have Joe Flacco who in the playoffs have decided to both make plays for his team and not make mistakes.

A team may or may not need Rodgers or Brady to get to the Super Bowl. But short of an elite defense + elite running game, a team isn't going to get there with Matt Schaub. And unfortunately, Matt Schaub himself is unable to contribute to said elite running game the way a mobile QB can.

I think those types of motivations work off the field, e.g. putting in more study time, working late with the WRs on throwing, etc. Those areas Schaub already puts in the time.

When the whistle blows and you start getting hit, I just don't think those things come into factor because one is so caught up in the game. If QB is worried about getting a new contract during the game, then I think there is something wrong with him and his priorities...and i'm not sure you want a QB like that anyways.

But, for Schaub in particular, as a person, I just don't see how him being in a contract year or not effected his play. I also don't think it helped push Flacco.

You know... I think it's high time to retire the "yeah, but Trent Dilfer (Brad Johnson)" meme. These are different times; QBs are king. Trent Dilfer would not win a SB today, even he brought that 2000 Raven defense with him.

Obviously, your QB doesn't have to be the elitist of the elite (as every certified elite QB is watching this year's SB right alongside all of us) - but they have to, at the very least, play at an elite level in the postseason. I don't think you can go very far otherwise.

I also think it does a disservice to Schaub. When he's playing well, he's an infinitely better QB than Dilfer, and certainly good enough to lead this team to a championship, no qualifiers, no grading curve. Unfortunately, whether we'll ever see him live up to that is now in absolute question.
