I was hoping this would turn into a meme. "Unimpressed Cushing" / "Nonplussed Brian" Wins division title ____ Wonders if he forgot to set his DVR
Pollard struggled with coverage but I liked other things he brought to the team. Obviously though, if there's one thing the Texans can't abide, it's someone who struggles in coverage.
This sums it up. He's not the hero this city needed. I was impressed a few times when he disrupted WR's timing at the line.
I always liked Pollard's fire <iframe width="560" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/fs9__cYwF-k" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
I think that is the point we need someone with FIRE in the secondary Kareem up til now was too young and well not good to provide it John Joseph does not seem that type of guy We need a live wire to lay the wood on the receivers someone to make them think twice about coming over the middle Seriously . . .there were several plays after that hit that made me think Those receivers were wondering where Pollard was when they dropped the ball. When Brady rolled out and could have run for the first down He didn't even try . . . he threw the ball away New England looked intimidated Rocket River
already disproven just this weekend. Also, if it's something else the Texans can't abide, it's penalties.
That argument would only make sense if the texans secondary was not a hard hitting one. GQ and Manning are better so I don't even know why people are making a stink over Pollard.
The problem isn't that we don't have Pollard. The problem is that our defense isn't good enough to cover up Pollard's shortcomings. Keep in mind the Ravens lost Webb for the season. Remember how badly we were utterly destroyed in the few games Joseph was out or badly injured? The Ravens played the entire playoffs without their version of Joseph, including against Manning and Brady, and managed to hold both QBs to pedestrian production. THAT is why the Ravens are in the Super Bowl.
They also have LB's that can cover slot receivers/TE's. We had an undersized Glover Quinn trying to do that. Cushing covers up a ton of deficiencies that this defense has in the middle that they need to improve upon to get this unit back to being somewhat elite. Front 3, decent/elite with Watt. Secondary... decent when they don't have to have Quinn playing a hybrid LB role. Middle? awful... especially when Barwin/Reed aren't able to get to the QB.
They could have found a role for Pollard on the defense, they just didn't. He is a football player, tough with a great on the field attitude. Hell, he was a captain on the defense here.He def brought something that football teams need
Basically they didn't think he would be able to cover well enough to stay in the system and they didn't want to pay him. Personally, I think if they can throw Keo out on the field for multiple plays, then I know for a fact Pollard could play this type of defense especially given how often they will call for a blitz or move safeties to cover Tight Ends or Running Backs. So I am leaning toward they just didn't want to pay him. Pollard was and remains one of my favorite safeties in the NFL today, mainly because of his personality and heart. But the fact is while they said Pollard wouldn't fit due to coverage, I think it was more money then anything else.
Are you seriously saying you'd rather have Patrick Peterson over possibly the best D-Lineman to play since Reggie White?? Kareem Jackson is playing fantastic right now, and Watt is single-handedly revolutionizing the position. Watt's ability to get to the QB makes guys like Manning better.
Patrick Petersen isn't even that great of a cover-corner. He somehow became one of the most overrated defensive players in the league this year. He'll be much better in 1-2 years but he's hardly an elite defensive player like Watt.
And like DonkeyMagic said, I don't even understand this argument. Quin and Manning are both HUGE upgrades over Pollard. Quin is one of the best safeties in the league right now, and Manning's coverage skills put Pollard to shame. In terms of hitting, I'd say all 3 of them are smash-mouth hitters.
captain of one of the worst defenses ever. I like Pollard. He's entertaining to watch but I have no issue with the texans letting him go nor do I really wish he was on this texans team as a starter.
The Ravens are also in the Super Bowl in part because of match ups. They match up well against Denver and New England. I do not think they matched up well against the Texans. The Ravens also won the turnover battle. This is not a knock on the Ravens, that is what the NFL is now.... very few teams play well against everyone else.
