Ok I know what everyone's thinking - another undersized PF?

But hear me out: I'd have to imagine his value is low right about now as he hasn't been able to find his game nor get the trust from his coaches (sound familiar Jeremy?). He's got a lot of talent on the offensive end with post ups, can go one-on-one and hit the 3. Has handles, can rebound and gets up and down the court with ease. I think he fits our high speed offense and he's that mismatch player that just seems to fit small ball play. He is inconsistent but being 21 he still has much upside and has shown flashes at times of being a real scoring threat.

Why would Minnesota do it: he doesn't fit in their system. Even when Love doesn't play he still struggles to get mins or plays called for him. Long term I don't see how he fits that team unless he shows he can play SF.

Don't know what we could offer but I'd love to have Royce included and sent back home.

    Thoughts?

Yeah, according to rumors, the Wolves are shopping Williams "heavily", I posted a link to the rumor in the random idea thread. So you're right in that department. Although, I don't know what it would take to land him though, but if the wolves get desperate enough to make a move, maybe we can get him for cheap.

Fredette's a good fit on offense when paired with Harden due to his ability to spread the floor, but he's one of the worst defenders in the NBA and you pair him up with Harden? Man, Asik is gonna have his hands full when they're out there together.

It's not as if our current guards right now are lock down defenders. Jimmer will come off the bench as the 6th man. He can be our own Jamal Crawford. Could use his scoring especially whenever James Harden goes to the bench to get his rest.

I really don't know if Willaims would fit here but watching him last night I was impressed for a guy that hasn't seen a lot of playing time there was no hesitation in his game he played with confidence which to me is very important for a young player.

Oh and by the way, Derrick Williams is also a tweener but i would trade both Patterson and Morris for him. The dude has a higher upside than both our Power forwards.. COMBINED.

yeah, but they don't need more backup PFs. They could use a legit, veteran 4/5 who's better than Williams now -- the Rockets have none of those.
OR they could use a defensive minded 3 who can pass and shoot. Kirilenko isn't the healthiest or youngest guy. The Rockets have 1 of those.

Actually, I'm not so sure about that. Patterson and Morris are doing just as well with similar minutes. Plus, they're both taller than Williams.

Do not want. Hold out for something better.

not really 'as well'. Williams started the season poorly but in the last 25 games per 36 minutes: 18-8, .571 true shooting. That quite a bit better than the Rockets' guys.
The question (just like with all backups) is can he really translate it if given a consistent big role.

I don't know, I think there's more upside to Derrick Williams then there is to Morris and PPatt. I mean he's 2 yrs younger, a much better athlete and he has better size (9 ft reach/ 7'1.5 wingspan) then both Patterson & Morris.

Not to mention making a two for one trade could open minutes for Motiejunas or Terrence Jones.

I'm sorta on the fence about Williams. Is he better than Morris? I think so. Is he better than Pats? Maybe, idk. One thing i do know is he is younger than both at 21. This is what intrigues me. Also, the fact that they might be able to get him cheap is intriguing as well.:confused:

I totally agree with the idea to make a move so as to bring Derrick Williams.
I have proposed this 2 or 3 times on this forum, and i'm happy to see that many fans think that it would be an upgrade at the PF position.
Drafted at the 2nd position, big star in college and big potential, much more than Patterson, Morris, Motiejunas ou Jones in my mind.
I think that with the right team, he could become an all star and he should fit very well with our team.
He's not that undersized (6.9) and size is not the most important. Look at Millsap for example and there is many examples of PF less than 6.9 who wherre great players.
Minnesota is OK to deal Williams when the main weakness of the Rockets is the PF position.
I prefer this option than Randolph who is 32 years old.

Yeah it wouldn't make sense for them. I am just so frustrated with Patterson and Morris.

To be honest the only way I would want to pick up Derrick Williams is if we land Rudy Gay. If we focus on getting rudy gay I would be all for scooping up a PF like derrick williams or Brandon Bass and then shop for PF's in the offseason free agency.

Williams will go for cheap while hes young, it would be nice to scoop him for a few scraps. Hes more athletic than Pat and Morris by light years and can shoot the 3, he might need to come off the bench because we need a true power forward. He would bring good depth and flexibly off the bench...

Guys, something no one has mentioned is that he's making #1 pick money. Do you want to pay the guy $5 mil next year, $ 6 mil the year after, and $8 mil the year after that? The guy isn't any better of a 3 pt shooter than Morris or Pat. Despite what others have said, he's averaging very similar stats to Pat and Morris. I appreciate that he's more talented, but at 6'8" he's a tweener, and at his salary over the next few years, he's grossly overpayed. He's not the answer. Stay away.
