Swarbrick is such an ass. He starts crying over Te'o possibly losing his innocence over this? This is the same AD who straight faced said he didn't think it was unsafe for that kid to be filming up there, and didn't get emotional at all after that kid's death.
You guys already had your mind made up, so I doubt anything he could have said would've made a difference. I get it, most people hate Notre Dame -- the chance to pile on one of its star players is too good to pass up. Here's the truth: He got duped. He lied about meeting her in person because he was embarrassed they only had an online relationship. He's extremely naive/stupid to have gotten Catfished, but he did. He's not a sociopath, he's not a bad person.. he's just an idiot -- that also happens to be one hell of a LB. I hope he falls to the Texans.
Here's the most plausible explanation: 1. Te'o is a mormon, and as such probably has a different attitude towards dating/relationships then much of his peers. 2. Te'o in on creation of fake girlfriend to keep skanks off of him at parties. 3. Said fake girlfriend becomes hard to bring to awards ceremonies, and so she is disposed of. 4. Profit 5. Get caught, whoops!
I thought that presser was a curious acting job at times, too. Granted, the guy probably knows Te'o better than he did Declan Sullivan, but still... you're right, he looks about as nonplussed as somebody can be who just saw someone die. <object width="560" height="315"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/bUfuuBRgkZw?version=3&hl=en_US"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/bUfuuBRgkZw?version=3&hl=en_US" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" width="560" height="315" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true"></embed></object>
1. Apparently hawaiian culture is different about dating, too. Finding a woman like that, whom shared his heritage/nationality, was probably a dream come true for him. And sometimes people want to believe in their dreams very, very badly. 2. Eh, not exactly buying that, but ok. Might have been a nice side-bonus for a conservative young man who didn't want to be tempted. 3. This would require a fair amount of foresight, as she was "killed off" long before Te'o was likely headed to any award ceremonies or ND was headed to a title game.
I get it, you're a Notre Dame fan who doesn't want to believe that Santa Claus isn't real. How would you feel if this was the same exact story, except you replace Teo with either Matt Barkley, Dennard Robinson, or Tim Tebow? That's what I thought.
***** Katie Couric to interview Manti Te'o ***** <blockquote class="twitter-tweet"><p>Deadspin says tips it got for the Te'o piece were from someone either directly related to hoax itself or to Tuiasosopo family.</p>— Richard Deitsch (@richarddeitsch) <a href="https://twitter.com/richarddeitsch/status/293070298222297089" data-datetime="2013-01-20T18:59:38+00:00">January 20, 2013</a></blockquote> <script async src="//platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" charset="utf-8"></script> <blockquote class="twitter-tweet"><p>Deadspin says it is planning to run a story this week that breaks down how it reported the Manti Te'o story.</p>— Richard Deitsch (@richarddeitsch) <a href="https://twitter.com/richarddeitsch/status/293070462869716995" data-datetime="2013-01-20T19:00:17+00:00">January 20, 2013</a></blockquote> <script async src="//platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" charset="utf-8"></script>
I think the fact that deadspin has to run a story explaining their story says something about how 1) confusing this story is and 2) how their initial reports left something to be desired.
The investigation ordered by Notre Dame was limited to the electronic search, Brown said. Investigators did not interview Te’o or his family, nor did anyone attempt to contact Ronaiah Tuiasosopo or any of his relatives. In response to questions, university officials said the investigators did not examine cell phone records, e-mails or other electronic communication to determine the length or extent of Te’o’s communication over the past few years with the person claiming to be Lennay Kekua, nor did the university ask Te’o to take a lie detector test. LOLOLOL. Oh, Notre Dame, the master of spin.

Winner winner, chicken dinner. As I expected, the truth will slowly leak out. Don't expect to hear the most damning info until after the draft.
The NCAA must be averaging like 5.8 scandals per school these days. Oklahoma and SMU are blushing. USC Auburn Pretty much the entire ACC *so bad Georgia Tech got to play in conference championship* Penn State and now Notre Dame. The Manti Te'o story is making Notre Dame look worse by each passing day. Oregon on deck. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2012–13_NCAA_football_bowl_games#Teams_unable_to_become_bowl-eligible http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2011–12_NCAA_football_bowl_games#Teams_unable_to_become_bowl-eligible
Manti was not the only one ... http://sports.yahoo.com/blogs/nfl-s...mposter-using-fake-female-181105506--nfl.html 22 verified NFL players and 6 NBA players.
Big difference between that and carrying on a full relationship and calling the girl the love of your life. Most guys will jump at the opportunity for a quick lay...very few guys have pretend girlfriends that they love with all their heart.
