^^^ That's a damn good trade, Conley is a perfect fit next to Harden. Not to mention we'd have 3 lefties in the starting line-up which would be awesome. I don't know who we start at SF though after that.
^I'd love that simply to see the core of the Spanish national team in the NBA. And if they could also bring Navarro back... But Memphis gets so much worse. They should get a couple picks in this deal. The Lakers get overpaid and they don't really have good picks to make it fair. There's no way Jamison gets moved unless he asks for it. He took less money to play there. Just... not happening. Simmons should know better. Toronto get overpaid but they could make it fair with a lottery-protected pick. Houston.. pretty good deal if they want to compete now. Overall, I want this to happen, it'd be fun. But i don't think it's realistic, and the Jamison part is just a no-go.
If we weren't giving up Parsons, if Gasol wasn't identical to Randolph contract wise, and if LA wasn't looking to shed salary, that might actually work.
^Memphis actually save a ton (Calderon's expiring, Parsons instead of Gay) but they also get clearly worse now and longer term. Gasol and Calderon are also serious health risks at this point. I wonder if they are willing to go that far. There have to less drastic trades to get under tax next year. From Houston POV, I think it's more than fair. As long as they are ok with the very concept of getting a big contract, taking a risk that ZBO stays healthy and try to win now. But in terms of assets and talent... It's Conley for Lin, pretty nice. Then ZBO for Parsons, Smith, Delfino. Pretty nice too. Take away Parsons, it'd be a robbery.
What about http://espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=ac6tqp7 and play D-Mo as SF backup for Parsons. Is there a chance grizzlies could be interested in such a trade (maybe some draft pick as a bonus or whatever)?
Conley is scoring 13.1 ppg with a career average 12ppg. Lin is scoring 12.2 ppg this year. Assists are about the same. Pretty much a wash. We end up with no backup center unless DMo can get stronger overnight. We have no SF unless we let Jamison start @ 36 or Royce White gets a brain transplant. We lose two of our offensive sparkplugs off the bench. We still have Morris and Patterson on the roster. Yeah it's a good deal.
voided statement . Looking at scoring instead of overall effectiveness. If you have ever seen conley play you would know that he would be the perfect PG for this team. The guy is a straight stud, can handle the ball, can SHOOT, can play defense, pass, doesnt need the ball to be effective. etc etc. is Bball IQ is alot higher than lins also.
You're one of those people who judge a player solely by how much he scores? I bet you thought Baron Davis was the GOAT! Conley >> Lin and Randolph>>>>>>>pat/morris, simple as that. We would downgrade at the 3 but that's the price you pay.
Yes I look at stats because it tells us what a player has done in the past and his potential for improvement. Conley is blah. Average. His D isn't shut down level like Tony Allen. Lin is okay on D. We lose because we dont defend the 3P shot well. It's not only Lin's fault it's all our perimeter players fault Yes he can shoot better than Lin, but Conley has never been known as an great playmaker or scorer. I've said it elsewhere, an average PG is fine with Harden on this team. It's not our biggest need. You say he's a straight up stud then why would they want Calderon who people say can't defend and has been unwanted in Toronto for years.
Bill Simons trade That would be an awesome deal for the Rockets, it would make us contenders next year with a decent free agent SF to upgrade Morris. Memphis would ask for a pick or a prospect from the other 3 teams. I still doubt they would pull the trigger now, they 'll probably wait to see how they will fare in the playoffs before blowing it up. I'd keep Smith and have Jamison stay with the Lakers. It's a great deal for all teams involved.
Conley just isn't so much better than Lin that it would make much difference. Randolph is a major upgrade rebounding @ PF but if you check his stats his ppg and pt per 36 min scoring are down. Maybe because he hasn't fully recovered from injury? On D he's not really known as a shot blocker. Are those two guys going to make us a championship team? No.. Not with a lot more moves. So what's the point of blowing up the team every year?
duh. that trade is about Memphis cutting costs, not about them "upgrading" from Conley to Calderon. They clearly lose that deal on talent, and I think they lose way too much for it to happen, even though they do save a lot of money.
Honestly.... why would we want old and slow ass zbo on this young fast team? Doewnt make sense and isnt a good fit...
The point is they have no reason to move Conley if he's a "stud" because his salary is reasonable. There's no reason for him to be the Grizzles version of Aldrich to help get ZBo and Gay off the books. Yeah no chance this happens. ESPN needs send Bill Simmons to the woodshed.
Yep, Conley's salary is very reasonable. Frankly, if I had to make that decision, I'd rather do the Gay for Dudley+something deal that was rumored (or especially Gay for Butler+Bledsoe, if that one is real) rather than ZBO+Gay+Conley for Pau+Parsons+Calderon. They can get under tax without blowing it up.
