this reminds me of the South Park episode where Michael Jackson says he is misunderstood and everyone else is just ignorant <iframe width="480" height="360" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/jG36OjxQWRg" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
Royce is afraid to see another psychiatrist because they are going to add to his diagnosis of GAD and OCD -- there is clearly more going on with this kid.
I just saw a piece of the interview on NBA gametime, Royce wants his doctor to tell the rockets what games he can play in!!!!!!!! OF COURSE Morey gonna say hell no, he wants to skip games WITH pay
I think he has trust issues. Any doctor the Rockets have a hand in choosing for him, he is going to assume a conflict of interest and not trust that person or their opinion. If a Rockets-affiliated doctor recommends he do something that he doesn't like, or doesn't want to do, he's automatically going to assume bias, collusion, etc. and revert back into his paranoid old self.
Can we fine him more than he makes over the course of the season? He is not only wasting a roster spot, but he also wasted our draft pick. I'm done with him. We can't even get anything of trade value for him. What a head case.
If he's being suspended(under past circumstance) no. In the past, it has only been a large fraction of that player's salary. When he was receiving 15K fines a day, yes. That's more than he makes obviously.
Morey just seems like such a professional and good guy. Very disappointing White has acted in the manner he has. Sure things can turn around any time but White certainly hasn't gotten off to having a good name for himself in the game.
Here's the problem you have with someone that has his condition. He honestly thinks that he's doing something that is just as important as that. Its not necessarily ego, that's just how his brain works in the paranoid delusional sense. That's why you have to know how to deal with people like him. Rule #1 should be to NEVER make them feel like a martyr.
If we weren't already there, we've officially reached the point where the relationship cannot be salvaged. Even if they worked things out to the point that he could practice, play at all the games, and wasn't going to the D league...I think he would be toxic to this team now and going forward. Only solution is to cut him or trade him. Maybe you try and work things out so that another team will be interested in trading for him once an agreement is in place. Is it worth the hassle, headache, and media bonanza to do so? My thought is no.. --> cut as soon as your legal team tells you it's ok to do so
that may be true, but I think if you mix the two you've listed, and make them both acute cases, you can account for his behavior. (#noexpert) In any case, the sad truth is that the net effect of Royce White on the employment world of the United States will be this: employers will be slightly more reluctant to hire people who admit to a GAD, and people with GAD will be much less likely to mention it to an employer. So, overall, a huge backwards step. Strong work, White. #BeGone
I have notoriously bad instincts for evaluating college talent for the transition to the NBA, but Royce's carrot was always a little puny in my eyes. We were excited about him, as fans, and he does have some rare skills (at least on display in the somewhat overrated Big 10, and at least when he is by far the best player on his team), but I truly could never see him as anything more than the 3rd player off the bench. That was his max ceiling, I believe.
Would be funny if he does decide to go to the d-league for whatever reason, then the coach there benches him for consecutive DNP's.
I'll just say this, he struggled mightily in the first few games of the Summer league, and then towards the end he started making flashing fast break passes that got him more engaged in the games. In the big leagues its going to be virtually impossible to make those kind of passes, and the other parts of his game that he struggled with will be highlighted even more by the extreme upgrade in defense against him. Royce White, while he has some talent, was far, far away from being a player that was a for sure all-star level talent. We should probably keep the "what ifs" to a minimum and remember that we are talking about a player who struggled in Summer League/Preseason, and had major holes in his game on any level much less the NBA.
