If there ever was a time it would be now. We basically lost to a d-league team tonight. I've been critical of McHale all year but eased back when we were winning although I still did not like his rotations and our half court offense. The other thing I wonder is how much of the offense is being dictated by Morey and his emphasis on efficient scoring/baseline 3s. I understand the general theory and agree with it but I think we're taking things to an extreme. It's just way too easy to defend if you almost never shoot a mid range jumper.
I was hesitant to join in the fire mchale crowd but after tonight I will. He has no idea how to sub players in and out of games and doesn't think his players get affected by the fatigue. It's no coincidence that this is the most back to backs we have played this month and the month has coincided with lots of missed shots at the rim, 3 pt and FTs. Yet he still rides the starters for heavy minutes each game even though they have been out of reach at the start of the 4th quarters in most of these losses. I'm starting to get to the point that they lose against the Bobcats cause I see things changing if that happens.
Rockets are playing atrocious..how are we going to beat any team. We're playing worse then the Lakers...the Lakers!!!..get rid of this guy!
Hate to say this but I'm on this bandwagon. Mchale is misusing Lin and his riding Harden to the ground (Which someone pointed out) Second he does not trust rookies. EVEN our PF are not doing well he still uses them. Third He tries so many Lineups yet he only uses all except rookies or those who has been playing so little. Fourth Rotation.
Wash McFail coaching the team last year too? If so, must be coach curse.....get rid of him quick.
Yes it was and he will still be the Rockets coach. Just like someone else said, he has job security because of the team being so young. Anything great the team does is a bonus if they continue to free fall it is not his fault the team is too young.
I have to wonder how McHale got the Rockets job in the first place, let alone manage to keep it up to now. Doesn't his contract go for another season after this one? Perks of being a member of the dynastic Celtics teams, I guess.
Kevin is not trying hard enough though. There's Dmo at the end of the bench who can ball. There's also Tjones, who can rebound and throw down, although he may still be in the D-League. Finally, Toney the Tiger has been solid, yet he's benched for an unproven rookie fresh from Russia. How can the other 1st rounders respect Kevin as a coach when they've been busting their balls all year and get no playing time, but some FOB rookie who was out of control gets major, meaningful minutes. Ughhhhh
You are right. I never said that this probably wasn't the case. Hence why Im not really placing blame on McHale as much as the next guy. Had they been a more experienced team, maybe they would be better at picking up more complex offensive sets McHale might want to run. Its a tough situation because their offense has become predictable, but there is very little they can do about it without practice time, and experienced players... which they DO NOT have.
i think mchale has hit rock bottom this should be his last chance to respond maybe call up tjones and donuts or do whatever i think we should judge him based on the next 5 games then really see our schedule has been terrible too , i mean if we played minny yesterday we wouldve won and gotten crushed by a rested pacers team scheduling affects this too anyways lets be honest were @ 500. and where we though we would be at this point patience lets not do stupid things like the lakers they turned out worse , patience
Im sure Les is not happy about this 7 game skid...and there is no end in site...wouldnt mind Gentry here btw...he is dang good coach
I actually don't have a big problem with the offensive sets. What I DO have a problem with is his substitutions and minutes allocation. He has literally run Harden, Parsons and Lin into the ground with their ridiculously high minutes load over FIVE Back to Backs and 2 x Four in Fives on the Road. He went away from having Lin and Harden having staggered minutes (where they were most effective in mid games stretches) and instead sat them BOTH for stretches with Douglas or Beverly running those units. And then there was the recent awful games where it's clear that certain players are having awful games and NOT letting the hot hands play. Would it have hurt any more to have DMo playing over PPat and Morris against the 76ers? Or TD for the 4th quarter in Minnesota over Harden when Harden is clearly completely exhausted and can't sink a shot? Does he REALLY expect Parsons, Lin and Harden to run up and down at a crazy pace, play defense, AND drive the Offense while playing them 40 minutes on the first night of a Back to Back? And then playing them AGAIN for 35+ minutes the second night? This isn't about the playbook. If the players are rested, they can run, they can make FT's, they can shoot the 3. You run them into the ground and you get what you see tonight and for the last 3 games... everyone slow moving up and down the court, without the legs to elevate for jumpers, sloppy ball handling, and lacking the energy to even drive quickly to the rim effectively. So, the play book is fine. It's how he's handling the players where I have a problem.
As terrible as the coaching has been it is pointless to talk about replacements this season. Morey has said he doesn't understand mid season firings, and it certainly won't happen with a coach who has recently lost his daughter and a team with Royce White public relations issues.
Also, in the Mavs game on ESPN at the half. They asked McHale how they would get Harden going and they reported that he said he wasn't going to run plays for him. I'm not sure how ignoring your best offensive player is going to help out, but that was McHale's idea I guess.
This is how it looks. I mean, did Morey listen to this guy talk before hiring him? He sounds like a complete idiot. He seems like a nice guy but he's way over his head.
