Coaches are getting away from the fundamentals of basketball in favor of their robotic system. Rockets' game looks like an opponent is playing a PC game against the computer program.
this is a dumb offense. seriously, its not sustainable the way they run their offensive sets and we are seeing evidence of it in this losing streak. harden has to have the highest usage rate in the game. everything is one on one iso hero ball with harden. They have no fluidity on offense if they are not running. id like to see patterson and greg smith get chances to score in the post. everything is freaking pick and roll with harden and lin. i wish they would have hired poppovich's long time assistant forgot his name instead of mchale. The spurs offense should be studied and replicated by the rockets. its a thing of beauty.
The reason why they continue to go behind screens on shooters is because most of the time the screeners were actually moving and cutting in between the defender and the ball-handling shooter, and the refs were not calling any illegal moving screening fouls. I have re-watched quite a few replays of our games just to confirm my doubt about this. I have written a long post about this after our last loss to the Raptors. But somehow I have not seen any solution from our coaching staff to counter this yet.
I am not saying Rockets are not going to win games with the current system being figured out. When we tell our opponents we are not going to take in-between shots, defense can concentrate on the perimeter and the paint, making the statistically efficient 3's and layups less efficient than the mid-range shots for a given game. This is what happened for the last few games and is going to make future games extremely difficult for the Rockets.
Any team that has shot blockers is going to destroy our half court offense. The mid range game is the only way to consistently neutralize shot blockers, regardless of how the refs are calling the game.
Its literally a elementary offense, i can run a much better offense and i'm a 15 y/o who can't even make my school team. All we do is this... Get the rebound ( If we can ) Run it up the court quick Look to take a quick shot if someones open... If not Give it to harden, lin or delfino Have then sit on the 3pt line till theres under 10 secs left Run a pick n roll - either take the shot, give it to the roller or pas to a open shooter. Play 2 Give it to one of the players and have them go ISO, everybody spread out and with one guy there for the board, let him penetrate and kick out or take the shot and hope we get the shot or a O board. ....Thats all the plays iv seen. POS offense.
Kevin, why are you playing a FOB rookie when you have Toney the Tiger, yet Dmo and Tjones can't get a single meaningful minute. How is this fair to your other rookies. No wonder Royce is mad and anxious.
The Rockets were winning at a good clip before this losing streak, and its not like they shooting at a flukey high percentage. So what were they doing then that they aren't doing now?
Running the court. Then the scouting report came out and teams started slowing the game down again and we've resorted to running McHale's half-court offense. And his half-court offense is a joke. In fact, his coaching in general is pretty damn bad, he's been completely out-coached by the Minnesota Timberwolves assistant.
Lin was agressive. Now he's fallen of the face of the earth. He has a worried face like I've never seen before. His jumper has no self-esteem.
