Yeah, educational and religious institutions would never desperately try to cover up a story that would tarnish its credibility and reputation. Never seen that before. Ever.
So for the people who think he wasn't in on it, why did he give two interviews after he admits he knew she wasn't real where he called her the best person he knew, the love of his life, all about God, etc. Why wouldn't he just say "I don't want to talk about it?"
Reasons why Te'o might have lied after discovering she wasn't real have been discussed several times throughout the thread.
I don't get the Oprah channel, but even if I did, I wasn't planning on watching it. Just going to catch the highlights/recap.
This isn't you by any chance? Guy Williams @guywilliamsguy Lance Armstrong's admission is making my "Lance is innocent" stance more difficult but I'm sticking to my guns.
Was DM a big Lance Armstrong believer or something? Not surprising, but a lot of people believed him. I'm shocked that Armstrong is partially coming out...thought he'd take it to his grave. As for Teo, I wouldn't be completely shocked if he's just hopelessly terrible with chicks and completely gullible, but the good money is that he's in on it for the fame.
Arizona Cardinals fullback on Manti Te’o's fake girlfriend: ‘No, she’s real.’ Lennay Kekua, Manti Te’o’s fake girlfriend, might not be so fake after all. Arizona Cardinals fullback Reagan Mauia told ESPN that he not only knew Kekua, but that he was close with her family. ***record scratch*** This after Notre Dame athletics director Jack Swarbrick held a press conference – a tearful press conference – Wednesday claiming Te’o had been the victim of an elaborate hoax created by a host of perpetrators who conspired to make Te’o fall in love and subsequently lose Kekua in grandiose fashion. But Mauia said Notre Dame might have been misinformed. He said he met Kekua in person when he went to do charity work in American Samoa with Pittsburgh Steelers linebacker Troy Polamalu and several other Polynesians back in June 2011. "This was before her and Manti," Mauia said Wednesday evening. "I don't think Manti was even in the picture, but she and I became good friends. We would talk off and on, just checking up on each other kind of thing. I am close to her family. When she was going through the loss of her father, I was... I offered a comforting shoulder and just someone to bounce her emotions off. That was just from meeting her in Samoa." … "She was tall," he said. "Volleyball-type of physique. She was athletic, tall, beautiful. Long hair. Polynesian. She looked like a model ... " He said it is his understanding that Kekua's mother is operating her Twitter account. He said he'd never met her mother. When told by a reporter that she apparently might not have existed, Mauia said: "No, she is real." http://sports.yahoo.com/blogs/ncaaf-dr-saturday/arizona-cardinals-fullback-manti-te-os-fake-girlfriend-051106606--ncaaf.html WTF?
Aside from the countless other inconsistencies in his story, this I found particularly egregious: What the F. Are you SEEEEEERIOUS?!?!?! So he heard other people with her in the hospital room while she flatlined? That's a minimum of 3 people plus the sound effects. So we're supposed to believe that a team of grifters a-la 'Leverage' pulled an elaborate con for no reason other than to troll?
Honestly, if I were a team drafting him, I'd rather him be a sociopath liar who cares too much about his own image than a complete buffoon who can't perceive the most basic deception. How is he going to read play-action in the NFL? (Yes, I'm being sarcastic.)
Whoever did this to Manti are ****ing assholes. I feel bad for this dude, to **** over this guy just for ****s and giggles is a low-life move. I hope there are some laws that will screw over these people. They deserve it.
The only thing confusing about this story is why it's such a big story. I just don't get it. How many people actually died? How much money was stolen from him? How many people were raped and/or murdered? What's the big freakin deal? I just don't see a story worth talking about. Seriously people! Am i missing something? Is this a joke? Am i living in Jokeworld now? They are actually talking about people losing their jobs over this non issue.
