I bring up blacks because you seem to think minorities being represented in Hollywood is not a problem. I'm not sure what planet you live on but it's been an issue for years. "Burn Hollywood Burn" is my favorite song on the topic and Hollywood Shuffle is a great film about how Hollywood was incredibly racist towards blacks. The reason you're getting called out is because you're the one stating things that are against asians. You'd be called out if you said it against anyone. You questioned if there are good asian actors in Hollywood and then you said why would asians be cast in a film unless it were a kung-fu flick. Might as well see if they'll accept you at a clan rally. No one is focused on what makes us different blah blah. But if you say dumb racist stuff you'll get called out. Especially if you're calling out your own race which is just mindboggling.
You want him to fund a documentary about himself? Who does that? You wouldn't be able to say anything good about him without some idiot saying he paid for a PR movie.
I asked people to name 5 good Asian American actors and some guy named a bunch - it proved my point. Now, EXPLAIN why it would be a good idea for Hollywood to cast Asian-Americans in roles other than Kung-Fu action comedy films or as a sidekick in comedy films? You don't seem to understand that it is a business about giving what the target audience wants. Ken Jeong must be a self-hating Asian because he keeps accepting those degrading roles right?
Whoa. If you choose to work in the system that's certainly fine and your choice. After all, everyone has to pay their bills and live their lives. But don't pretend that these types of issues don't have an effect on people - especially young people growing up. In my opinion, you're much too cavalier about this topic. Re: Jeremy Lin -are you kidding? His team won the California high school basketball championship in the toughest division against a team with 10 division 1 players. The 2nd best player on Lin's team didn't play division 1. And he got no scholarship offers, didn't get drafted, and had Baron Davis stayed healthy he would have been cut, again. Can't pretend his race didn't matter. It's not YOUR fault, of course. But when you talk like you do you sound like a stone cold sellout. Jesus H. Christ - a guy who collaborates with the Nazis can make the same argument you can. And it's NOT TRUE that if you're good enough you'll make it. There are many industries, entertainment and professional sports being two of the most obvious ones, where very subjective judgments often determine one's opportunities. There's a very limited amount of opportunities. Otherwise do you think Cody Karl, Luke Walton, and Austin Rivers get the huge opportunities they get?
Isn't the the movie where stone cold foreigner Tom Cruise kills the hot Japanese woman's husband, she falls in love with him, he bangs her, and then teaches the Samurai what it means to be a Samurai? I'm sure white guys were loving that! Pretty good catering to your audience. Maybe YaoMac was an intern on that movie?
Follow the Sundance link in the first post for the schedule. There are showings in several locations including SLC.
Maybe I am, but I honestly just don't care about race, to me, it is about as meaningful as height/weight. I am not pretending that racism doesn't exist, I am saying that you don't and should not let it negatively affect your life. So what if some guy rejects your job application over something as stupid as your race (i'm that guy ), you keep applying for jobs. So what if someone is rude towards you because you are XYZ, screw them and don't waste your time on them. Your life will be so much better when you stop caring so much about something as small as where your parents are from (this doesn't only apply to Asians). Before some idiot says "oh you won't get too high up because you are Asian." The director of the company I work for is freakin' Asian - so if he is like one of you "wooo Asian pride" guys, then good for me; if he is a "self hating Asian" like me, then good for me too. Honestly, it just sounds like you guys are making excuses for being **** at what you do. Jeremy Lin could have b****ed and moaned about how life is unfair - but he didn't - he acted like a boss and kept at it and now he is being paid millions to miss open J's and commit silly turnovers. Unless you are actually doing something about bringing about change (other than calling people out over the internet), then you are just an annoying insecure whiner. Icing on the cake = LOFs, A LOT of LOFs support Lin purely based on his race (or at least, at the start), don't complain so much about not receiving equal treatment when you don't treat others equally.
I respect your opinion, but I think you're way off base. Fact - there is not one CEO of a Silicon Valley tech company who wasn't the founder. Yet only Caucasians have more people working in tech. And the SF Bay Area is more open to Asians than anywhere in the US. And yes, when I have the opportunity I make sure to give Asians an opportunity if they are qualified. Why do you think so many Jewish folks work in entertainment? Because they look out for their own. Otherwise, we can look forward to our children doing more work than other people and getting less of the benefits. Like I said, certainly not your fault. And you sound like a pretty cool guy to be around. Asian pride people can get annoying if that's all they harp on. But this stuff matters. Just hope that you try to move that needle, even if just a little bit. Group dynamics can be frustrating. I'm sure Hillary Clinton is frustrated that 90% of blacks voted for Obama over her. The list goes on and on. But if you don't play that game, someone else is. Then you end up working for them.
Too many Asians hate other Asians over technicalities such as skin color, looks, size, or nationality to ever look out for each other. The world we live teaches Asians to self-hate and take the side roads in life. That's why it is what it is.
Why are you even asking these ridiculous questions that make no sense. It's a good idea because asian actors can do more than play roles as martial arts experts. You keep claiming you don't care about race but then you ask racist questions. You're not race neutral, you're clearly anti-asian and it's bizarre since you've stated you're asian. Why is it okay to only cast asians in stereotypical roles? Was it okay for Hollywood to only cast blacks as drug dealers and slaves?
Go back and read your posts. You are far from neutral. Your posts are very anti-asian. "Name 5 good Asian/Asian American actors." "Why would they unless it is a kung-fu action comedy/comedy film or something though? It makes zero sense" Not sure how you can claim those quotes from you above aren't anti-asian, but since you seem to think you're neutral. Try changing "Asian/Asian American" above for black or hispanic or another race or culture and replace the asian stereotype perpetuated in film with ones for another race/culture. "Name 5 good black actors?" "Why would they unless it's a film about drug dealers or sports or something though? It makes zero sense" Still not racist??
If you live in Australia, NZ, or the Western Hemisphere, of course it's the reality. The media's images and society's mockeries put out the same message. But even then, I still prefer to eat and behave my own way as a modernist.
Why do you keep bring up black people? If someone wanted to argue that black people are treated unfairly in Hollywood I would bring up the same arguments. Like I said, I hate all the hardcore race pride people equally.
It's like this, we know we're Asian or whatever and bringing up racial pride is just plain stupid. I agree. We got to do it this or think that way or whatever just because we are whatever. I fawkin' hate that but at the same time know some people might just judge me based on my appearance.
I thought bringing in other races might get you to see things differently but now it just seems that you're just a bigot in general and not just against asians. If you think statements like these are okay than yeah I'd say you're a racist/bigot: "Name 5 good Asian/Asian American actors." "Why would they unless it is a kung-fu action comedy/comedy film or something though? It makes zero sense" or "Name 5 good black actors?" "Why would they unless it's a film about drug dealers or sports or something though? It makes zero sense" There's a difference between having pride in own's culture vs being neutral vs being racist. You are far from neutral buddy. Someone that's neutral would not say crap like "Name 5 good Asian/Asian American actors." or "Why would they unless it is a kung-fu action comedy/comedy film or something though? It makes zero sense"
